About this deal

They say it’s the little things that really make a bathroom look beautifully styled. This is never more true than when it comes to bath waste and overflow . Even on a low budget, the most modest and basic of bathroom suites can feel far more stylish when teamed with well chosen accessories. But first, let’s talk about what they are. What is a bath waste and overflow? If your bath has an overflow, then you want to make sure that the waste you choose has a built in overflow. This way, your waste, plug and overflow will all be coordinated, giving your bathroom a more finished and sophisticated look.

If you’re plumbing in a new bath, you will eventually come to fit the bath waste. Or, if your old bath waste has corrosion or is leaking or damaged, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to replace it. From the outside, push one end of your waste pipe so it’s flat with your bath plug and connect it to the tailpiece underneath. Once it’s connected, you can put the new waste cover on from the inside of the bath. Using a silicone sealant is advised when fitting a pop-up bath waste to avoid overtightening it and hindering the pop-up feature. Does a bath waste need a trap?

Top tip: Make sure your replacement bath waste fittings closely match your existing ones. How to fit a bath pop up waste and overflow First, use a screwdriver to unscrew the waste cover plate in the bathtub and remove it. Then remove the large washer. Now it’s time to prepare your bath for its new waste and overflow components. At this point, it’s worth test-fitting the items and cutting the kit to size if it doesn’t fit perfectly. It’s best to do this before securing everything in place and realising you have to remove or redo it. Once you do, find the single screw in the centre of your waste cover and use your screwdriver to unscrew it. That should mean you can now remove the outer bath waste from the bath. Hopefully, you have another person helping you at this point. If so, ask them to help you line up the overflow tube with the overflow opening on your bath. You also need to make sure the horizontal drain arm lines up with the drain opening on the bottom of your tub.

A bath waste component has two sections; bath waste and overflow waste. The bath waste part connects the bath drain and waste trap, and the overflow waste funnels water away at the top of the bath when there is too much. The tools you need to fit a bath waste It sounds complicated, but you just need to unscrew the connectors at each end – which should just be held in place with nuts, meaning a spanner is all you need. Once they’re loosened, you can disconnect the pipe at both ends and remove. Pop up bath waste and overflow is exactly as it sounds. To release water, you simply twist a dial right above the overflow hole and the plug ‘pops’ up. They’re far more minimal in style than a standard plug and chain as they bypass the ‘chain’. This means they look a lot more stylish too, great for a more modern bathroom suite.First, choose your new bath waste. Here at Build & Plumb, we have various styles and designs to browse. Why not browse our bath waste collection for modern and stylish baths? Step 2: Prepare Yes. However, some plumbers prefer to use plumber’s gold.
