Ronald Story published The Space Gods Revealed: A Close Look At The Theories of Erich Von Däniken in 1976, written in response to the evidence presented in von Däniken's Chariots of the Gods?. It was reviewed as "a coherent and much-needed refutation of von Däniken's theories". [52] Archeologist Clifford Wilson wrote two books similarly debunking von Däniken: Crash Go the Chariots in 1972 and The Chariots Still Crash in 1975. R.Z. Sheppard (2 August 1976). "Books: Worlds in Collusion". Time. Archived from the original on 20 February 2011 . Retrieved 21 January 2012. this belief distorts and detracts from the real human story, the one told by credible evidence. This is not trivial at a time when our species is growing rapidly and becoming more technologically powerful while also continuing to struggle with violence, ethnocentrism, racism, and scientific illiteracy. We are unlikely to solve our biggest problems until we accept the scientific discovery of ourselves and consistently value a reality-based worldview. But for millions of people, this is more difficult than it should be because they have been seduced by fictions such as the one that says ancient astronauts were at the center of our shared past. One artifact offered as evidence in the book has been disclaimed by von Däniken himself. Chariots asserts that a supposedly rust-free iron pillar in India was evidence of extraterrestrial influence, but von Däniken admitted in a Playboy interview that the pillar was man-made and that as far as supporting his theories goes "we can forget about this iron thing." Neither this nor any other discredited evidence, however, has been removed from subsequent editions of Chariots of the Gods? [21] [22] Popular response [ edit ] I soon lost my grin, became profoundly curious, and what followed was a wonderful experience, unusual in evert respect, an undertaking which was done exclusively in my spare time, since NASA, my employer, is not engaged in such matters. Examples include Ezekiel's vision of the angels and the wheels, which Von Däniken interprets as a description of a spacecraft; the Ark of the Covenant, which is explained as a device intended for communication with an alien race; and the destruction of Sodom by fire and brimstone, which is interpreted as a nuclear explosion. [1] [14] [15] [16] Von Däniken attempts to draw an analogy with the " cargo cults" that formed during and after World War II, when once-isolated tribes in the South Pacific mistook the advanced American and Japanese soldiers for gods. [2] [12] I could rant on the stupid theories in the book but I will let you do it yourself. Although many of the theories are nothing but wild postulation, the subject matter is interesting. I have always been intrigued about the possibility of alien life, so, crazy as this guy is, its a fun subject. The third school of thought is that the scientists already know how the pyramids were made, including their architectural design and blueprints. It is true that some scientists and engineers were able to describe the secret behind the Pyramids to a certain extent. But only a few people are ready to accept these explanations.

The first draft of the publication had been rejected by a variety of publishers. The book was extensively rewritten by its editor, Wilhelm Roggersdorf (a pen name of the German screenwriter Wilhelm Utermann). [1] [2] Summary [ edit ] Statue from the late Jōmon period (1000–400 BCE) in Japan, interpreted by von Däniken as depicting an alien visitor. Von Däniken suggests that the Nazca lines (200 BCE – CE 700) in Peru could be "landing strips" for alien spacecraft Ingray, G.M. (September 24, 1972). " 'Chariots' theory – how valid?". The Sydney Morning Herald . Retrieved March 20, 2017.Soon after the publication of Chariots of the Gods?, von Däniken was accused of stealing the ideas of French author Robert Charroux. [19] Von Däniken is a member of the Swiss writers association, the German writers association, and the International PEN-Club. The high priest of the ancient aliens claim is of course Erich von Däniken. The cultural craze started with his 1968 book titled “Chariots of the Gods?”. The question mark in the title was dropped later once the idea gained considerable traction and took off. The main thesis of Chariots of the Gods is that extraterrestrial beings influenced ancient technology. Von Däniken suggests that some ancient structures and artifacts appear to reflect more sophisticated technological knowledge than is known or presumed to have existed at the times they were manufactured. Von Däniken maintains that these artifacts were produced either by extraterrestrial visitors or by humans who learned the necessary knowledge from extraterrestrials. However, I don’t need to do that, many others have done exactly that over the years. None of it, not one jot, stands up to scrutiny. None of it is original to Däniken

The Gods Were Astronauts: Evidence of the True Identities of the Old "Gods" (Vega books, 2001) ISBN 1843336251 I can't find any reference to an unusual animal in the tomb of Udimu (better known as Den). However, exotic animal skeletons, included hippos, leopards, baboons and elephants, are common in early Egyptian tombs. These animals were either caught locally, or imported through trade.

Ostojic, Magdalena (October 18, 2013). "Von Däniken wieder fest im Sattel". Jungfrau Zeitung (in German) . Retrieved March 20, 2017. But the disturbing fact is the sheer confidence of the author in his most ridiculous and logic-defying assumptions and hypotheses. With a condescending view towards the historians, he goes on blabbering about one misinterpreted archaeological evidence after the other, citing numerous out-of-context mumble-jumble about this Physics principle and that astronomical data with a stunning conviction. Chariots of the Gods? Unsolved Mysteries of the Past (German: Erinnerungen an die Zukunft: Ungelöste Rätsel der Vergangenheit; in English, Memories of the Future: Unsolved Mysteries of the Past) is a book written in 1968 by Erich von Däniken and translated from the original German by Michael Heron. It involves the hypothesis that the technologies and religions of many ancient civilizations were given to them by ancient astronauts who were welcomed as gods. a b Lehmann, Fritz (April 7, 2015). [54] Popularity [ edit ] The simple question comes to why? Which is unanswered and I think the biggest problem with Erich's idea. Anyway, since I have you on tenterhooks with all those questions above (is it aliens? it must be aliens, right?), here's a few answers for them, which von Daeniken somehow overlooked: There are many problems connected with the technology of the pyramid builders and no genuine solutions." a b c d e f g "Playboy Interview: Erich von Däniken".
