About this deal

Working for Janklow & Nesbit UK in London, Hellie represents authors of YA novels and middle-grade fiction. One of her clients is Kat Dunn, the writer of the YA LGBTQ fiction Dangerous Remedy and YA historical romance Monstrous Design. Horrible Histories Gruesome Guide: London takes readers on a gore-tastic tour of the streets of London, exposing all of its most scurrilous secrets. With this book tourists can plot their path to the past – take a trip to the terrifying Tower, dip into the ruthless River Thames (London’s largest toilet!) and peer into creepy St Paul’s Cathedral. So whether you've got a bookworm on your hands, a child who hasn't quite discovered their reading passion or are looking for a novel way to explore the city (follow the children's bookshops, naturally), we've rounded up the can't-miss bookshops that kids will love in London.

The important moral at the end of the story will encourage children to respect other people’s property and to stay safe. Matteo’s astonishing project, to illustrate a continuous 20 mile journey along the north and south banks of the Thames, took him two years to complete. Now the two 37-foot-long pen-and-ink drawings can be enjoyed in vibrant colour, with eye-opening (and eye-watering) facts; from the battles of Roman London and the Princes in the Tower, to the Gunpowder Plot and the great Victorian stink! Nicola Barr is one of the two literary agents managing the children’s list of The Bent Agency in Richmond, London. After working for widely respected businesses such as HarperCollins and Greene & Heaton, she continued to excel in her new agency by representing some of the most successful authors in fiction. It is never too soon to introduce tiny tots to one of the most spectacular cities in the world- London! This collection of interactive, lift-the-flap, boldly illustrated books will provide hours of entertainment along with a nice introduction to the capital of England.

Unmissable YA

The Hyde Park Squirrels‘ are very good reads and probably one of the best collection published this year. I liked the engaging stories and also the powerful illustrations because they’re not simple and not so common. They’re absolutely gorgeous to look at and full of details.

However, traditional publishers don’t usually accept unsolicited manuscripts unlike these UK publishing houses. Apparently a holiday in Paris inspired Miroslave Sasek to write and illustrate children's travel guides to the big cities of the world. He began with 'This is Paris' and followed it up with 'This is London' and the series developed from there. The books with their informative text and distinctive illustrations were hugely successful and brought Sasek, who died in 1980, international fame. The store also has a good children’s section with everything from beautifully illustrated books, picture books for babies, novels and more. The only downside is that the staff don’t alwaysknow the children’s books very well (we’ve had some great experiences and some not so helpful) but if the whole family wants to browse books then Daunt’s is a great place to come. I just adore the Madeline book series and have such great memories of reading the books with my kids. Madeline in Londonembarks on a new adventure to London to “see the Queen”. The delightful book provides an introduction to the city to early readers and listeners. Grab it HERE A Walk in LondonWhile Louise isn’t currently open to picture book submissions, she’s eager to discover the next best books for children and teenagers. In particular, she prefers stories that amuse and take readers on an unforgettable journey. If you think your work fits the bill, send a submission to Louise. Barton’squirky and comic illustrations bring to life the journey from the comfort of his familiar university surroundings into the hectic bustle of central London. A fun and enlightening read for friends, family, caring professionals and anyone interested in an alternative viewpoint on the world. Sure to strike a chord with other day trippers on the autism spectrum. Clare is a huge fan of immersive storytelling, unforgettable characters, and distinct perspectives. Some of her clients are Martyn Ford ( The Imagination Box: Beyond Infinity), Tom Ellen ( Never Evers), and Lindsay Galvin ( Darwin’s Dragons). Traveling to big cities, like London, rich in history and culture, will broaden your child's viewpoint and understanding of the world. There is no need to wait until the time comes to visit in person. Children can start exploring and learning from home by reading t he best kids' books about London. Julia represents Michelle Harrison, the author of award-winning children’s fiction such as The Thirteen Treasures and The Other Alice. In general, she’s more than willing to accept both established and new authors whether they’re working on YA novels or middle-grade fiction.
