About this deal

I took the twenty to ten bus from Hay, and got off just beyond Peterchurch at Poston Mill, where the caravan park is. A little way along the main road, I turned off up a driveway which was also a public footpath, which led up to Poston Lodge. The views of the Golden Valley are fantastic, and this morning there was sunshine with a slight haze in the air.

Rowlestone Mill will be turning a Victorian apple scratter - an alternative to a horse driven cider mill. I bumped into a friend while out shopping who told me that the home of Richard Booth, King of Hay, has just gone on the market, so I looked it up on Rightmove. In the evening, there's a talk at the Swan, with speakers talking about walking in the Brecon Beacons, Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, and The Shropshire Six - six hills on a 40 mile route which is traditionally completed in one day! The Bull's Head is not the only pub in this area that is making the effort. There are several places similar to it – and there are also some ghastly dumps that should have closed down a long time ago. Not sure if poetry is for you? There’s a nice chair waiting for you so you can sit and browse for a while until you’re sure. Don’t be afraid to ask the staff for help finding something either as they’re very friendly!Rob Appleby pointed out that all the scientific endeavour over the last few hundred years has led to us (as a species) learning about 5% of all matter in the universe. There's 95% of stuff out there that we really know very little about, and that includes dark matter. He seemed quite excited by this thought, as it means we have so much yet to discover. One day a small snake came into the cave while the hermit was eating his meal, and it begged for a few crumbs. Each day the hermit fed the snake, and each day it grew a little bigger. The girls who are in the bursary project have also been doing well, and are all moving on to the next grade. This is to provide extra support in the form of school materials which parents would usually have to buy, and to give extra training in areas like sexual health.

Just as we were saying "What on Earth was that?" three more tuk tuks came across the bridge, and off they all went together. Stagecoach, which runs the service, have said that they are concentrating their resources on the South East of Wales, where the need is greatest, but that doesn't really help those of us who live in more sparsely populated areas. In the early days of Hay Festival, the Three Tuns was an essential watering hole for journalists from national newspapers who covered the Festival. The meeting then broke up into groups for actual planning of when people were going to London and what they were going to be doing. As I won't be going, that wasn't something I could participate in.

About Me

They usually choose a theme for each issue, and the theme for this one is paper. Hay is very dependent on paper, in the form of second hand books, but we don't usually think much about the paper they are made from. So they start with a history of paper, from Ancient Egyptian papyrus to modern wood pulp (inspired by a French scientist called Rene Antoine Ferchault de Reaumur, from his observations of wasps' nests). There was a special Anniversary service at Painscastle Chapel, and a Sankey service (named after the great hymn composer Ira Sankey) at Rhosgoch Chapel. Gift Card Fraud apparently is someone phoning you up to tell you to buy gift cards and read out the details of them over the phone, otherwise the police will come round and arrest you!
