About this deal

Tired of her promises, Bib Fortuna personally journeyed to Cid's office for an update on the rescue of Muchi. Besides the barge, accessories include a Jabba the Hutt figure, Yak Face on a collectible card, the necessary parts for barge assembly and other minor details. The assembled Khetanna, though quite large and occupying substantial space, is an excellent display piece, given its detailing, coloring, molding and sculpt. The accompanying accessories also contribute to the overall appeal and showcase potential. For 35 years, fans have been clamoring for their own piece of Star Wars extravagance and sophistication: a Hasbro recreation of Jabba's sail barge, the Khetanna, which the notorious crime lord used to cruise across the Dune Sea. With the launch of HasLab, an innovative new platform bringing big ideas and niche products to life, fans across the United States -- and, StarWars.com can exclusively reveal, in Canada, too! -- may soon be able to sail away with their own massive 4-foot-long, highly detailed recreation from the toy brand's comprehensive 3.75-inch scale Vintage Collection. The never-before-produced vehicle has been on the wish lists of fans and toy designers alike for decades, says Hasbro's director of Global Brand Strategy and Marketing Joe Ninivaggi.

The first of the completely new minifigures we get is Ree-Yees (a name I know compliments to Star Wars Galaxies), our three-eyed thug destined to die a fiery death (along with a lot of prisoners and enslaved people like Max Rebo) when they blow up the barge. I’m all for more aliens in the Star Wars figure lexicon, and this one certainly doesn’t let us down. Plus, with a molded head, no alt face! At this time fans were abuzz about speculating the next “big” vehicle. Jabba’s Sail Barge was always at the top of the list. However, Hasbro had long denied the possibility of producing a faithful Sail Barge due to the high cost of tooling, and thereby high price point that the vehicle would demand. The loyal majordomo of Jabba the Hutt, Bib Fortuna would greet all who arrived at his master's palace. Hasbro, the makers of Star Wars toys, has finally released their most ambitious project, Jabba’s Sail Barge, known as the Khetana. Measuring over 4 feet long, this gigantic battle ship is the largest and most expensive mass produced Star Wars toy ever.

Dern, who had the privilege of being the first to receive a final production barge at his office in San Francisco (for final product review purposes) is excited for fans to finally get their hands on their own sail barges soon. But he’s hard pressed to identify his favorite aspect of the finished vehicle. “As a toy designer I appreciate this grand undertaking from a pure design, engineering and manufacturing toy perspective. The amount of deco and level of detail is absolutely incredible on this. It’s a bit of a showstopper. Wait until you see the size of the box this arrives in!” StarWars.com goes inside Hasbro's plan to make its largest Star Wars product ever -- with help from fans. Of course, there was a reason that LEGO made the choice to go with this style instead of the boat hulls from the old one… Evans says the team has plans to dive deeper with GoPro cameras and time lapse footage that truly capture the magnitude of the process.”That is a really important aspect of it,” Evans says. “The authenticity. We're a company, but we're actually doing this because it's really cool and really interesting and to share that stuff with fans is really important. The idea of seeing how something is built and the craft behind it. I think fans, it really resonates with them. You get into the kitchen, you get into Jabba's kitchen to see how we cook it all up!”

Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca to between around 8 BBY and 2 BBY. For instance, to capture the glamorous vintage-inspired box art showing the barge in full-color glory, 14 Hasbro employees spent 120 hours on the photoshoot, which included bringing in 900 pounds of sand to recreate the Dune Sea and the creation of one custom, posable Sarlacc. Revealing that they held Solo in their possession, they bid the invitees to travel to Jekara and witness the return of Crimson Dawn. Believing that Fett had cheated him and sold the smuggler to a competitor, Jabba placed a bounty on the hunter's head before departing for Jekara, leaving Fortuna to look over his palace. Unaware that the Hutt had left, Fett stormed through the castle's dusty gates, incinerating two Gamorrean guards and demanding that Fortuna give him answers. After explaining that his master was absent, Fortuna suggested that Fett leave, lest the retinue of thugs and mercenaries that made up Jabba's court turn their weapons on the hunter. Fett reminded the rabble, however, that many of their number would perish in a firefight against him, dying in the meager name of Bib Fortuna. With this in mind, no one fired a shot. [25]Although rereleases aren't out of the question, Evans says Hasbro is concentrated on creating new, highly-articulated figures to populate Jabba's sail barge, so expect to see some complementary action figures released in 2019.

The interesting thing about the new Sail Barge is that it looks better sitting next to the old one than it does all by itself. The first pictures of this set just looked absolutely horrible, and were met with much wailing and gnashing of teeth. I’ll admit, I did more than my fair share of it, and after building this set, I was right for the most part. While it’s not as bad as I had first thought, it certainly not as good as the old one, but does have a few updates worth noting. Dune Sea Songs of Salt and Moonlight" — From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi (Mentioned only) Once they had determined the sheer size, there was plenty of room for ingenuity. “You get to the point where it's like, 'Well, what else is behind these panels? What don't we see?'” Evans says. “And then we start using our imagination and, to be honest with you, that's quite a fun bit.” A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 202 dates the Second rescue of Grogu to "9 ASW4" or nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, including the Battle of Yavin. " A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 211 similarly dates the Assassination attempt on Boba Fett to 9 ABY. Since the epilogue of " Chapter 16: The Rescue" takes place between the second rescue of Grogu and the assassination attempt on Boba Fett, it can be concluded that the events of the epilogue, including Bib Fortuna's death, occurred in that same year. After building this and the Republic Gunship at the same time, you really see the gulf in quality between the sets. The RGS is one of the best sets in the LEGO Star Wars line, and a wonderful follow-up to a well-loved set. The Sail Barge doesn’t do much to justify it’s existence or it’s cost.Honestly, the worst thing about this feature is that it takes away from look and design of the set, chews up piece count that could have been used elsewhere to give us a much better model. It used to be that the use of the big, ugly corner slopes is what really bugged me. Then I built the set, and realized that they were just someone being lazy after having a model ruined. Inside, we still have the little kitchen and prison-ish areas. The lost space inside was mostly taken away from the prison, which is now fixed (the old one had a removable grate). I still don’t really get the kitchen part, but it is what it is. I am glad to see the glowing cubes, spider, and the like all gone. Early glimpses at the 3D modeling for the ship reveal a baby rancor scaling the side of Jabba's lounge wall, an armory, and intricate murals and grisly trophies reminiscent of his other favorite decoration -- Captain Solo in carbonite. Since then, we’ve had a whole bunch of crazy varieties, which makes this a bit uninspired. Basically, we get dark tan instead of dark grey (having come into the palette with PoP sets after this set had gone to pasture), and the addition of the wine bottle. The size of this thing is incredible,” Dern says. “From a manufacturing/tooling perspective, this is quite an undertaking. The tooling just to create something at this scale, with such an amazing level of detail, is a remarkable achievement."
