About this deal

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist. Rise.” Ash’s voice was deeper, louder. A powerful thunder. “Rise for the One who is born of Blood and Ash, the Light and the Fire, and the Brightest Moon.” He said, and my eyes cut to him as my breath caught. A devastatingly beautiful story, that will have you wanting to strangle some characters a few times, and an ending that will probably have you gasping and wanting to physically harm a specific character in a way you never thought before! I had different expectations to how Sera and Nyktos's relationship would develop in the sequel but I was hoping the miscommunication between them wouldn't have been as present and that what mainly bothered me. Here it seemed they kept going through the same cycle at times. I completely understand that Sera was insistent on going to Kolis and continue with the initial plan that was set for Nyktos, but her instance also came about because she found herself being cared for. For the first time in her life someone actually cared about her wellbeing, someone is there for her if she wants to talk, simply put, someone is there for her.

Despite the temperature of the room returning to normal, a chill broke out across my skin as I thought of what could come. “What will happen if Kolis enters the Shadowlands?” I ignored that. “What will Kolis do if he realizes you’re shielding someone who carries the embers of life?” I demanded. “Or discovers that I carry Sotoria’s soul? What will he do to the Shadowlands? To those living here? I want to know what my presence will cost you.”

Keep in Touch!

So much happens in this book and yet we are not really close to the figure out why the gods/primals all went to sleep and how Sera ascended. And to think all the theories as to why he was not listed in the Primal list was because he was a traitor and was suspicious. Nope. He was loyal and amazing, and I hate that his end was so brutal. That Sera could not save him, and we have to forever remember that all he wanted was to protect both of them and he died doing it.

This book begins right where the last one left off, with world-shifting reveals changing everything sor Sera and Nyktos. Sera is adjusting to her truths about herself, the life that she will be living in the Shadowlands, and the part that she has to play in an ancient prophecy. She is also coming to realise that she may have the opportunity to live a life that she never thought she would. She is feeling free for the very first time, and she absolutely blossoms. Kolis can be unpredictable, but he’s no fool,” Nyktos said. “If he can enter the Shadowlands and comes to the coronation, he won’t try something in front of the other Primals and gods. He believes he’s the fair and rightful King of Gods, and he likes to keep up the façade, even though the Primals know better.” My lungs started to burn as tiny bursts of light danced across my vision. The breathing exercises weren’t working. A tremor hit my hands, and panic unfurled in my chest. There was no air—

i can’t even begin to express how upset i was when it was revealed that nyk removed his kardia (the part of his soul that allows him to love). this means he can’t love sera like she loves him 😭 i understand why he removed it but god it hurt so bad to realize he couldn’t return sera’s feelings I LOVED Nektas and how absolutely amazing he was with Sera. I saw their friendship and admiration for each other the way I wished Jennifer had kept Kieran and Poppy. The contrast between the two is massive in my eyes.

Either way, I will not play the I-don’t-want-you-but-no-one-else-can-have-you game. With you or anyone.” A muscle throbbed in Nyktos’s temple. “I cannot love,” he bit out between clenched teeth, speaking to Holland. “I made sure that would never be a weakness someone could exploit.” Something told me that this was more than just him making such a claim. “And how can you ensure that?” The romance could be described as a slow burn when it comes to admitting their feelings and talking about them, but it was not that slow when it came to sex. As in the From Blood and Ash series, there is quite a lot of smut, but contrary to the last 2 books of the FBAA series where it was just ridiculous at times how they couldn’t refrain from having sex in inappropriate moments, it’s not as bad in this book. Sera and Nyktos are obviously attracted to each other and there is great sexual chemistry between them, but while they are horny for each other, they can remain levelheaded and don’t always think about having sex with each other, and I liked that about their couple. I do love good smut, but there is a time and a place for it. Also, my other issue with this book is that it seemed the plot was going in circles sometimes and unlike book one, this was more repetitive. And similar to the world-building issue, I'm trying to word this correctly, but there shouldn't be as many new reveals especially as we're heading towards the end of Flesh and Fire and Blood and Ash series because I'm trying to connect the dots and I'm struggling. Some of the issues they dealt with could have been prevented if they just were honest and talked things through, but I think because both Sera and Nyktos are trying to understand whatever it is they are feeling toward each other and not having to communicate is their usual MO things didn't always work in their favor. As I said earlier in this post, A Light in the Flame is a devastatingly beautiful and heartbreaking book, with moments that made me laugh in ways I didn't' expect, exasperation levels I didn't think I could reach and some of the most swoon worthy moments I have read in quit some time. Holland barked out a short, guttural word in a language I didn’t recognize as he turned his head, spitting on the ground. Sorrow crept into Penellaphe’s expression. “And with that, what other visions the Ancients dreamt, and may only be known to them, have now been lost.” also that ending?! I don’t know what to think anymore 😭 the fact that kolis knew the whole time that sera had the embers of life and all their planning was for nothing. i really don’t know how sera is going to escape kolis The balance here demands that the life taken is then restored to serve as a reminder to the gods that their inability to control themselves has consequences. Maintaining balance isn’t always as simple to understand as it is when, say, the Primal of Life restores a mortal’s life.” His eyes fixed on mine. Hard. All-seeing. “Another’s life must be forsaken in their place.”
