About this deal

When choosing a tomato variety, remember that there is more to consider than just colour, as Gardener Hannah Reid shares:

The ‘Golden Queen’ is one of the few round, yellow tomatoes. What’s more, it is one of the rare German varieties. ‘Golden Queen’ plants bear their golden fruits quite well in the greenhouse and under rain protection. As with most yellow tomatoes, they taste fruity, mild and sweet.Cherry tomatoes are a delicious option, and yellow cherry tomatoes taste even better! These also do quite well if you’re growing tomatoes in pots. After the frost threat has passed, place the tent in a sunny location. This is the most effective soil for planting in because it is organic rich and well drained. Watering should be allowed in dry weather as long as the soil is moist. In containers, tomatoes may need to be watered more frequently than in gardens.

These are just some of the many yellow and orange tomato varieties that it is definitely worthwhile considering growing in your garden. The ‘Yellow Date’ is another pear-shaped yellow tomato. Its’ small, sweet, yellow fruits grow abundantly on the plant. They can be grown on several vines and are suite to growing in pots with rain cover. This orange cherry has been extremely popular since being introduced to UK gardeners in the early 1990s. Yellow Brandywine’ tomatoes originate in the USA and are a sunny yellow variety of the well-known, red ‘Brandywine’ tomato. Weighing up to 500 grams, it is one of the larger beef tomatoes. The plants do not bear many fruits, but the few they do bear taste are fruity, aromatic and delicious. These plants produce cherry tomatoes which cascade down around the edges of your basket or container.

Banana legs– this one sounds like a strange insult, but it’s just a delicious tomato! They are a pale yellow great for making sauces or just adding into salads. Kellogg’s Breakfast is a favorite of many experienced growers as they produce huge 1-2 pound yellow fruits all season long. They’ve won awards for their meaty, thin skin and tangy but sweet taste. Goldita’ produces many round, almost orange-coloured fruits with a uniquely delicious aroma and a lot of fructose. It is an ideal tomato for growing on the balcony and in the garden that is resistant to disease and has beautifully shaped leaves.
