Hi, Tom and Talula, it’s nice to meet you, can you tell us more about the husband and wife team behind the brand Sekforde drinks? However, with huge names like Schweppes and Fever-Tree available, Sekforde had to provide something different.
Have a clear idea of who you are speaking to and which channels are most suited to your product. You can save a lot of time by being really focused in the beginning. Also find your advocates and find out who the influencers are in your category. If they like your product it can be a huge boost. Not being on of the largest pubs on the list, it’s not uncommon for the pub to spill out into the Jerusalem Passage, which can often create quite the buzz in the air during sunny and festive periods. At 60 calories per bottle and under, they contain no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no colourings, no preservatives and are never from concentrate. The 100% recyclable bottles are the perfect premium single-serve soft drink, as well as ideal for mixing.
In addition to the huge beer selection, the food on offer The Dovetail is also really good. From wild boar burgers to a plate of mussels, the food selection is reasonably priced and of really decent quality. Outside the two-story building, The Clerkenwell And Social a number of outdoor benches and seating. However, it’s worth noting that these are usually the first to fill up on busy night (such as Thursday or Friday), so it’s good to arrive early or even book if you can.
Sekforde Drinks’ Aromatic Raspberry, Rose & Sage soda can be enjoyed on its own as a soft drink but has also been tailored to mix with gin and vodka (our panellists tasted it with Chase Distillery Gin). Located (quite literally) next to Farringdon Station, The Castle is great little pub at the centre of the area and frequent stopping off point for those working in the area. Staying open till quite late (usually 11pm), The Castle can get a bit busy at peak times, with a commuters often going in with friends and colleagues for after work drinks – or for “one last one” on their way to the station. Oakman Group has agreed a 35-year lease with St Albans City & District Council to redevelop the historic Batchwood Hall in St Albans.The food at the pub is pretty good, better than most pub food and something they have really tried to develop. Like the rest of the service, if you’re after a lunchtime drink and meal (or even dinner) then I’d definitely recommend The Sekforde as one of the best gastro-pubs around Farringdon. We also have a lot of people who enjoy them as soft drinks. They comment that they are much more delicate and sophisticated vs. standard soft drinks. I won’t lie, I kind of miss the alternative vibe that was found in the The Three Kings when they had the old magazine and newspapers on the walls. However, a fresh feel isn’t a reason to dismiss this icon of Clerkenwell pubs.) The Slaughtered Lamb is a really great pub near Farringdon and Clerkenwell. Located on Great Sutton St, just off the Clerkenwell Road, The Slaughtered Lamb is a large spacious pub often frequented by those working nearby or on an evening out. So it’s got a really nice buzz, especially mid-week.

Best described as “standing room only” on busy night, The Jerusalem Tavern makes use of the space towards the street for people to overspill into, creating a real buzz on a warm or festive evening. Tom and Talula were looking for a mixer to pair with dark spirits like rum and whisky. Talula White explained to Verdict: Rather than trying to compete with these products, by putting our own interpretation on those established flavours, we created Sekforde to sit alongside those options, providing a lighter alternative and an experience that prioritises the preservation of the spirit’s quality.
Given that so much of a drink’s success is down to how much it stands out on the shelf, Talula’s simple, eye-catching design probably served Sekforde wonders in its first year. I’ll admit the selection isn’t vast but what they do have is good quality and served really well and efficiently, so if you’re with a group and need to catch a train you don’t need to worry about waiting.A serving suggestion is the Rhubarb Float: to create Cawston Press’s homage to rhubarb and custard chews, spoon a scoop of quality vanilla ice cream into a glass and top with Sparkling Rhubarb. Good Earth Kombucha is an ambient product, so does not need fridge space and has a shelf life of 12 months but is best served when chilled. The rum mixer is centred around lime, mint, sage, rose and cacao bitters. With a lighter rum, it is grassy and fresh, perfect for a hot day. With heavy or aged rums, you get more of the caramel flavours coming through. What do I not know and who do I know that may have the answer. There are some things you can’t anticipate but the last 12 months have taught me to ask every question and to think through every aspect. It’s also worth asking yourself why you are doing this. If you are genuinely passionate about what you are doing it makes it easier to keep going and to deal with harder days.
