About this deal

It needs to be compact, lightweight and powerful and all my top ten choices weigh 120g or less and are shorter than 120mm. With maximum outputs ranging from 750 lumens all the way up to 4000 lumens. Olight Baton 3 on the left in 300 lumens high mode (turbo 1200 lm!)

All of the beamshots taken below are done so with the following camera settings (ULTRA-LOW: 2.5 sec, F3.5, ISO100, 5000K WB, LOW: 1 sec, F3.5, ISO100, 5000K WB, MID: 0.5 sec, F3.5, ISO100, 5000K WB, HIGH: 1/5 sec, F3.5, ISO100, 5000K WB, and TURBO: 1/25 sec, F3.5, ISO100, 5000K WB). At 3.4V, the buttons will light up blue once every two seconds – I feel this is quite high, and 3.1 or 3V would be perfectly fine. Excellent operation and simple user interface. In conclusion an almost perfect usable EDC for many uses and activities (household, reading, camping etc).Brightness: You should also look at the brightness of the flashlight. The lumens listed will give you an idea of how bright it will be. For general use, a flashlight with 100-300 lumens should be enough, but if you think you need more, 1000-2000 lumens is probably enough. LED. Here to stay is the simple dual button design with a power button for on and off, and a mode button to cycle through brightness settings. The mode button also doubles as a turbo switch. Whether the light is off or on, holding the mode button gets you instant turbo. With five brightness settings to cover all of your needs the T4K is a must have accessory for any keychain, emergency kit, or outdoor set. USB-C Fast Charging I measured 4180K for the LEDs with a pretty neutral tint and a very high 95 CRI. They’re behind a TIR or Total Internal Reflection lens and I measured a throw of 104m with a beam intensity of 2700 candela. It’s less than what’s quoted in the manual but still a useful throw for a small torch like this. Again if you’re unfamiliar with any of these terms, I explain them in detail in my previous video. The Nitecore TK4 flashlight has 4 CREE XP-L2 V6 LEDs with a max output of 4000 lumens, a max peak beam intensity of 10,900cd, and a max throw of 682 feet/209 meters.

For a rechargeable flashlight that is low weight, compact but able to put out a seriously bright light then the T4K is a great option. At just 76g and capable of an output of 4000 lumens this is an impressive piece of kit. The Nitecore T4K provides two user modes: demo and daily. In Demo mode the torch will automatically turn off if there has been no operation in 30 seconds; in this mode a countdown will be displayed on the screen. In Daily mode the light stays on until turned off by the user. To switch between the modes, press and hold the power and mode buttons simultaneously until the LED flashes. 1 flash indicates the torch is in demo mode and 2 flashes is for daily mode. Another information on the display is that of the 4000 lumens TURBO mode (lasting about 10 seconds). Let's see the sequence:

It comes with everything to get you started, including a 21700 battery with 5,000mAh capacity. It also includes a USB-C cable, so you can charge the battery inside the flashlight. No need to get a separate battery charger. Under the logo on the front of the light is a naked USB-C port used for charging. One thing to point out here is the fact that there isn't a cover over this port. That's a bit concerning due to the potential for water penetration. The torch came on at 1271 lumens in turbo, dropped to 1245 lumens after 10 seconds, 1206 lumens after 30 seconds – pretty much exactly its spec’d 1212 lumens. It slowly dropped to 487 lumens at 5 minutes and then slowly dropped to 327 lumens, where it remained constant for the remainder of my measurements. This is impressive performance for such a small torch – almost 2 minutes at over 1000 lumens. This is the default operation of the torch, but the TS10 runs Anduril 2, an open-source firmware for torches. Anduril is completely configurable but quite complex – I could fill an entire video covering all its options. You shouldn’t let that put you off, the default operation is pretty close to my perfect user interface anyway. But if you like fiddling, I’d highly suggest reading the manual that I’ll link to down below. If you get to grips with Anduril, you can have the same setup with every Anduril torch you own. This unit is ridiculously bright when in Turbo mode, and it’s not surprising that Nitecore included a warning in its documentation about shining this light into someone’s eyes.

Given that Turbo only works for 10 seconds, I won’t be stressing the light by hitting turbo over and over again; it doesn’t really result in much, as the light gets heat-soaked, and turbo lasts for shorter and shorter periods until it lasts for less than 1 second. I’ve run High and Mid, though, as I believe these will be the most commonly used modes for longer periods of time. There are 2 settings (DEMO and DAILY) and 2 electronic switches on the side of the flashlight – MODE button (closer to the head) & POWER button (further from the head) to operate the light.Turbo on the T4K lasts for around 10 seconds and shows a progress bar in reverse, in effect the timer counting down. Realistically it’s not a bad thing – the light is very warm by the end of the timer, and running it for 20 seconds would probably have it be either unreasonably hot or severely throttled by thermals. I usually wouldn’t use a turbo mode for more than that long on something like this anyway, and I’ve been trained by the Emisar D4v2 not to use it for that long, so I don’t see that timer as an issue. In its brightest turbo mode I measured 822 lumens at turn, 808 lumens after 10 seconds, 788 lumens after 30 seconds, and 642 lumens after 5 minutes – very impressive for a small torch like this. And then 356 lumens after around 8 minutes which it held constant for the remainder of my measurements.
