An audible Carbon Monoxide detector is the only way to be alerted to a carbon monoxide leak; it can’t be smelt, tasted or seen so it’s impossible for human senses to detect. CO detectors should be installed near potential sources of carbon monoxide, essentially any fuel-burning appliances such as boilers, cookers and ovens, fireplaces (both open and enclosed burners), and portable generators. As you are likely to be most affected by CO in areas of your home that you spend the most time in it is advisable to install alarms in those areas as well, such as the living room and bedrooms. It is also worth noting that while one detector is better than no detectors at all, larger homes may require several detectors to cover the property fully. With the alarm memory function, the red LED will flash to provide a visual indication of a previous CO alarm activation. Also note that carbon monoxide has been proven to spread into neighbouring properties through open windows and, in semi-detached or terrace houses, through loft spaces. If your property has an attached garage with a connecting door through to the house, it is recommended to fit a CO alarm inside the house leading from that doorway. Find out more about what you should expect from your landlord for CO safety in your home. Get protected today Once your CO alarm is activated, this icon or ‘heartbeat’ will continue to flash a green LED in power mode. If a battery fault or warning has been silenced for a period of 8 hours and times out during night time, the silence period will automatically be extended once for a further 8 hours (night silence will increase the counter by 1 for sleep easy). Please note, this feature is not available with the FA3820 or FA3313 alarms. Activating your new FireAngel CO alarm Known as the ‘ Silent Killer’, CO occurs when fuels burn incompletely, with common sources being boilers, gas fires and hobs and solid fuel burners. However, carbon monoxide can also pass through walls, so you would also be at risk if a neighbouring property had a leak.

If your CO alarm stopped beeping after being outside in the fresh air for 10 minutes, you may have a possible carbon monoxide leak in your home. We recommend calling your gas supplier or national emergency gas helpline on 0800 111 999 and await further instruction. Do not install CO alarms within 3 metres of doors or windows, above radiators, or immediately close to anything that gives off steam or fumes like a cooker or shower room. Similarly, it is not recommended to install detectors in dusty areas such as workshops or garages. All alarms are calibrated and rigorously tested in-house and are third party tested to receive the BSI Kitemark certification to provide peace of mind. If a room is not ventilated and ppm levels continue to increase, the alarm will activate.
