About this deal

Looking like a large coffee pod, the Dualit EcoPress is a big lump of plastic. It comes in two main parts: the lid lifts off to reveal a capsule holder and a bin beneath where the used coffee is collected. Until now, it’s been widely believed that aluminium coffee pods are too small to be captured for recycling when items are being sorted. Sainsbury’s has challenged the industry and discovered that waste management companies have facilities that would actually be able to capture and recycle these smaller items. I’d have thought that the Dualit EcoPress would require a degree of pressure to perform the action, but this wasn’t the case. A hard push is all that’s required to force the capsule inside out. The machines that separate mixed recycling (trommel screens) also now pull out the 'fines' (small items) that in the past might have been missed and sent to landfill. Most materials recovery facilities then put the fines over an Eddy Current Separator, an advanced metal sorting system that uses magnets to pull out non-ferrous metals like aluminium, from other materials.'

Which coffee pod brands are the most eco-friendly? - we investigate how easy it is to recycle used pods for different coffee machine systems such as Nespresso, Tassimo and Dolce Gusto To use it, you place the coffee pod face down on the top section, place the lid on top and push down to turn the capsule inside out; the action pushes the coffee grounds into the bin below. It’s really as simple as that. This is where the Dualit EcoPress comes in: it squeezes the coffee out of Nespresso and Nespresso-compatible pods so the aluminium containers can be added to your recycle bin, while the coffee grounds can be used elsewhere, such as for compost. As with the Dualit EcoPress for the standard capsules, the Dualit EcoPress for Vertuo is a plastic device designed to push a Vertuo Pod inside out, spilling its used coffee grounds into the bin, leaving the aluminium shell for recycling. To help educate consumers about how to recycle their coffee pods, Sainsbury’s has become the first UK retailer to label its own brand aluminium coffee pods as recyclable. This label will make clear the importance of emptying the pod and rinsing it before placing it in the recycling bin, so that the clean aluminium can be sorted and recycled. This is not intended to be a full statement of your rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Full details of your rights are available from your Local Authority’s Trading Standards Office. How To Return A Product

In the main bin you’ll find the coffee grounds. On inspection, I found a few bits of aluminium from the base of the test capsules had dropped on occasion, but these are easy to fish out, with the coffee grounds emptied into a regular bin, food bin, or compost bin. Dualit's solution is the EcoPress: a device that turns used pods inside out, pushing the coffee into the container below so the pod can be easily rinsed and recycled via your home collection bin. Claire Hughes, Director of Product and Innovation at Sainsbury’s says:“We’re always looking for new ways to help our customers live more sustainably at home, and key to that is making sure any changes are small and easy to implement. According to Alupro, if a capsule is still full of coffee then the Eddy wouldn't be strong enough to capture it, but capsules could be captured and recycled as long as they have been 'EcoPressed'.' Stating that something is recyclable and the ease with which it’s actually recycled are two different things. The coffee capsule is a case in point. Technically, aluminium pods can be recycled; but only if the coffee grounds are removed first, which can be a pain.Until now, it’s been widely believed that aluminium coffee pods are too small to be recycled and need to be recycled via specialist collection schemes – but that’s not the case

Scottish Highlands & Islands postcodes: AB, FK, HS, IV, KA, KW, PA, PH, ZE, LL58-LL78, IM, TR, PO30-41Anything of a nature that for hygiene or associated health and safety - this includes the Outdoor Spas, Mattresses and Divan Sets Still, what’s remaining can easily be rinsed off, leaving a clean aluminium case that can be dropped into a recycling bin. Dualit recommends putting the capsules in a colander and then rinsing in washing up water. If you wish to return your item to Robert Dyas, you can do so by the following method: 1. Please note some larger products are delivered to kerb-side (the street outside your home), it is at the drivers discretion if they can deliver the item to another location on the property. Currently, customers are advised to recycle coffee pods via specialist collection schemes which aren’t always convenient, so the EcoPress will be welcomed by many. Once the coffee has been separated, users can put the remaining coffee in home compost bins, in kerbside food waste bins, or in their garden – using small quantities around plants*.That’s why we decided to challenge the notion that aluminium coffee pods can’t be recycled and with consumers more concerned about the planet than ever before, it felt like a natural place to look. Cleverly designed to hold the coffee grounds of 10 of our capsules, once the EcoPress is full coffee grounds can be home composted or placed in your food waste bin. Far from a waste product, coffee grounds are suitable for feeding plants and can be used in a garden compost bin. With the Dualit EcoPress for Vertuo, you get to keep this waste while recycling the aluminium at the curbside. Introducing the Dualit EcoPress, the perfect solution to recycling coffee pods at home and reducing the number of capsules going to landfill.
