About this deal

In part, the MCs dialogue got to me. In general, I’m not a fan of internal dialogue that’s repetitive throughout the book. I mean, I get it, you can’t want her. It wouldn’t work. Okay! I think this was what kept me at a distance throughout the book never fully connecting with either Noah or Amelia. I must have felt something for them at the end, however, because I did shed a tear during the epilogue so there’s that. The names Annie came up with for Will’s full name — this had me dying and when he took pictures of her during the moments when she wasn’t looking bc he thought she deserved pretty pictures of herself and to collect them all for her to have ugh it was so cute Sarah is my all time favorite comfort author, i absolutely adore every book of hers that i’ve read and this time was no different! i seriously cannot remember the last time i had this much fun with reading a book 🥹 Sometimes a woman is just worn out and needs a break, you know?” The lines on her forehead deepen. “That doesn’t prove that you’re weak or neglectful, it proves to all the women standing by and watching you pave the road to success that it’s okay to say no. It’s okay to shut your door every now and then and put up a sign that says Busy taking care of me today. Piss off.” She misses her estranged mom who tried to take advantage from her stardom status. Her demanding agent can be intimidating by intervene everything in her life. She is turned into a fake girl who is always polite, always smiling.

When in Rome is a small town, grumpy/sunshine, insta-love romance that is a cute, fun, sweet rom-com that had me smiling to myself and laughing a bit. I enjoyed seeing Annie and Will navigating and working through what they thought they wanted in life for reasons entirely rooted in circumstances/trauma from the past. I loved how both of them didn’t force what they wanted onto the other and were encouraging and understanding of one another esp in facing what was ahead for them thus reaching common ground. Although this is a retelling of a classic movie, it has a lot of Hallmark vibes. Its small town setting and close-knit community are really lovely. Noah’s tight relationship with his family adds even more of a heartwarming feel to the story. ❀ Feel-Good Enemies to Lovers Book

Another annoyance besides the fact that Annie just irritated and frustrated the living stoof out of me is that she would have dialogue that came OUT OF NOWHERE. It was like the author had mapped out these “scenes” and would just jump to them like a squirrel who got distracted by too many nuts. And you're just like, where did this come from? What are we talking about? Who, what, where, how? ALLL THE RELATIVE PRONOUNS! The majority of their communication was so honest and open (which I loved) especially on Wills end like yess we love a man who can ACTUALLY communicate. At first it did feel like insta love but I still ate it up as it didn’t feel cringey to me like most.

He’s too busy running the pie shop his grandmother left him and reminding his nosy but lovable neighbors to mind their own damn business. Despite his better judgment, he lets her stay in his guest room—but only until her car is fixed—then she’s on her own. Amid steamy practice dates and strictly ‘educational’ tutoring lessons, the lines of their friendship blur and Annie reconsiders what her ‘dream guy’ might look like. Maybe her love life doesn’t need to be perfect – it just needs to be real. The relationship between Annie and Will is sort of a slow burn, without the 'burn' part, but there is also an instant attraction between them, which we are very aware of every time they talk or just see each other. I missed a more gradual progression and the excitement of 'will they, won't they'. I mean, obviously they will, since this a romance, but Annie's "I only want to get married" and Will's "I never want a relationship" didn't carry any weight here. The characters themselves are never able to make up for the unnatural writing and the missing chemistry. He’s supposedly a grump but comes off more as an asshole, and she’s a naive pop princess who melts at the smallest sign of kindness and is desperate for crumbs of affection. Katy Adams writes both characters almost identically in their POV chapters. They’ve got good bones, and their romance has potential, but they’re overloaded with physical descriptions and with about two or three characteristics that Adams wanted to note that they have that Noah and Amelia never got to breathe on their own, and their relationship felt manufactured. Oh, and a super rushed ending doesn’t help. Wow oh wow! I had never read a Sarah Adams novel before this one, but let me tell you something: IM DEFINITELY ABOUT TO READ HER OTHER BOOKS. When in Rome basically took over my life for a day.. because I think I read this book in a day? I mean I think I started it yesterday and I finished it today in the morning, so.. YEAHHHH Sarah knows how to grab my attention instantly. What a loopdidoo of good and bad this was….so LET’S separate this into the good (what worked) and the bad (ooof).

it seems to me, annie, that you are just waiting for someone to give you permission to be yourself out loud.” i think the only thing that makes these small town books great are all the side characters, i literally LOVED mabel 🫶🏽 Discover The Cheat Sheet– the heartwarming friends-to-lovers romance that became a sensation on TikTok!It was deliciously romantic. Kind of like watching a 90s rom-com but with still it having the magic of being a book.' ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ The male protagonist, Will, is a body guard and ex-military. He hates romantic relationships because of his parents bad marriage.

Florist Annie Walker is determined to find someone who complements her life. But after overhearing her latest date describe her as ‘so unbelievably boring’, Annie wonders if the problem might be her. Is it too late to become flirtatious and fun like the leading ladies in her favourite romance movies? Maybe she only needs some practice . . . and Annie has the perfect tutor in mind.Sarah Adams’s books are woven with pure sunshine and rainbows.Perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez and R. S. Grey, When in Rome is a slice of delight that will leave you smilinguntil your face hurts. It’s everything you could want in a small-town romance, along with a heaping dollop of her signature wit and sparkling charm.” —Amy Lea, author of Set on You to me, you’re amelia. maker of shitty pancakes and a smile that rivals the sun. all i want is you.”
