Album opener " Sweet Sacrifice" contains "rumbling guitars", a string section, and a "layer of programming" alongside Lee's "trademark haunting vocals and dark lyrics", according to IGN. [50] The main theme of the song is recovery from an abusive relationship that was the source of Lee's writing on Fallen, coming from a "much stronger standpoint" on this album. [30] [53] Lee said the song is also "almost sarcastic" to herself as she "needs to stop being that sweet sacrifice". [54] Entertainment Weekly described it as a "bruising breakup lament that turns into an anthem of freedom". [45] Sammy Weissberg ~ woodwind and string arrangements, electric bass, upright bass, electric and nylon string guitar, piano, hand clapping Your father, Al Da Flaga was an arrogant fool who thought he could buy immortality. And I am a defective clone of that man."

This fictional account takes great liberties and makes broad assumptions but is quite facinating. In this book Fenimore is a free spirit who has escaped the strangulation of her family. She is a successful author of 'ladies' novels but craves the real literary conversation and friendship. She is especially in awe of Henry James. She does manage to become his friend although he is obviously disdainful of her wrting as well as irate at how much more money she makes than he does. James is clearly a homosexual in this depiction and asks Fenimore to marry him as a social 'cover". This seems totally logical to me. What I don't buy is her discovering him in the garden with an Italian boy. He would be much more discreet than that. I can accept that he would seek out such favors ( it explains his travelling about Europe so much) I just don't think he would do it in the garden of a house he was sharing with Fenimore.

Henry James was erudite and possessed of many charms and great wit; he was, conversely, a pusillanimous pompous ass who valued the appearance of propriety above all else. Whatever sublime truth beat in his heart, however steadfast a friend, the only matters of consequence were public opinion and his reputation. United States Department of State (1949). Leschper’s The Opening, Or Closing Of A Door, due March 4 via ANTI/Epitaph, is a paean to the sensory world. It’s the first Leschper has released under her given name, having retired the moniker Mothers after eight years of performing and releasing music under it. Though both projects are guided by Leschper’s idiosyncratic approach to songwriting, they couldn’t sound more different. While Mothers drew inspiration from the stark, skeletal sounds of post-punk and contemporary folk, Leschper’s new work is practically baroque, integrating an array of synthesizers, strings, woodwinds, and over a dozen percussive instruments. “Earlier work didn’t involve recording as part of the writing process, recordings were simply made as a document of something that had been written and rehearsed. I have since discovered a deep affection for home recording and sound exploration, finding that I thrive in those rabbit holes of texture, timbre, rhythm, which can add so much complexity to the emotionality of a composition.” The Open Door is a luminous and profoundly moving novel inspired by the life of Constance Fenimore Woolson, one of the most widely-read and respected American authors of the nineteenth century. Exploring themes of passion, life, death, friendship, and art, the novel is a vivid evocation of the complex forces behind literary creation.
