About this deal

Ensure that the SylvaGrow is kept moist but not over-wet, at all times. Hanging baskets have a particularly high water requirement and may need watering every day in warm weather After four to six weeks, regularly apply a liquid feed, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Alternatively, at the time of potting incorporate slow-release fertilizer granules according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Removing peat from the ground is an unsustainable activity that can cause serious harm to the environment and damage biodiversity. For this reason, it is being phased out from horticultural use, with the sale of peat and peat-containing products in the retail horticultural sector being banned by 2024, although some uses for professional growers will still be permitted until 2030. Remember to supplementary feed as instructed above in ‘Potting On’ as vegetables are heavy feeders and will respond well. Coiror coconut fibre – this is a waste product, mainly imported from Sri Lanka. It has excellent water-holding abilities and a sufficient mix of fine and coarse fibres to hold air in its pore spaces, to provide good growing conditions. However it doesn’t hold nutrients well. The environmental credentials of coir are debatable, due to the distance it has to be transported, but this is balanced out by the fact that it is a genuine waste material. Stem cuttings need to be in a moist environment out of direct sunlight until they have rooted so either place in a cold frame, a covered propagator or cover with polythene, using supports to prevent the polythene from touching the cuttings. Root cuttings can be placed in a cold frame or sheltered spot out of direct sunlight and can benefit from a thin layer of grit on the growing medium surface Prepare the stem or root cuttings according to type, ensuring that they are not allowed to dry out between cutting and inserting.SylvaGrow Multi-purpose can be used as part of a raised bed medium for vegetable and strawberry growing. Simply mix 1 part SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose thoroughly with 3 to 4 parts loam or garden soil to gain a valuable addition of organic matter and nutrients.

Raised Beds SylvaGrow Ericaceous can be used as part of a raised bed medium for lime-hating plants. • Simply mix 1 part SylvaGrow Ericaceous thoroughly with 3 to 4 parts acidic garden soil to gain a valuable addition of organic matter and nutrients. • Remember to supplementary feed as instructed above in ‘Potting On’. If the soil used is not acidic, (which is not recommended for best results) use up to 1 part SylvaGrow Ericaceous to 1 part soil and be particularly vigilant regarding supplementary feeding with an appropriate fertilizer for lime-hating plants. • Keep the soil moist at all times particularly during the first year as the plants are becoming established SylvaGrow with added John Innes is not suitable for raising lime-hating, ericaceous plants in containers. For these we recommend SylvaGrow Ericaceous. Cautions Do not cover hairy leaved plants like geraniums and saintpaulia. Keep in a warm, well-lit place, out of direct sunlight. Water again only when the compost dries out. Growing on:Fill a deep seed tray or pot with SylvaGrow Organic and make a suitable hole with a dibber or pencil
