About this deal

The entire fifth-grade class participated in a genetic experiment through the company MapMyDNA. Each person spit into a tube and received a report of their inherited traits, like whether they had detached earlobes or could taste bitter flavors. We felt cornered into letting her participate. It was easier than answering the questions that would follow, but the test came and went without a hitch." Overall this was an okay read that in my opinion started off strong but started to go downhill after awhile.

I was so dazed, confused and several times I said” all right all right all right” and murmured my fav college teacher Matthew McConaughey’s science fictional, weird Oscar speech about updated new version of himself word by word. ( Brain is an amazing thing, I don’t remember what I cook yesterday –because I didn’t, I have a husband for this- but I memorized those eerie words I wasn't planning to read this at all. But after I got copy from netgalley, I gave cursory glance at opening chapter and I was hooked. 5 hours later, I finished the entire book in single sitting. This is still a very binge worthy and fun read. The concept is quite interesting and medically, I'd be curious to know if this was actually possible and/or what laws, etc would interfere. How far is too far? I'm so intrigued! Because of that, the pacing felt off. We only got some bits and pieces of the Tangled story, which was hands down my favorite part of the book. The author did a fabulous job of including the scenes from the movie into the storyline. I felt like I was watching a movie commentary, and it was absolutely hilarious. She also included scenes of the movie almost verbatim, and I enjoyed that tremendously. I was so excited to read this book, especially because it focuses on the Tangled adaptation of Rapunzel! Mother Knows Best” is a cutting-edge story, one that is almost futuristic in its scientific advancements (yet equally plausible) and as a result, terrifying.

Guys. I was fa-reaking out when I dove into Mother Knows Best. Now after reading it? Well, you all shouldn't be surprised if I end up disappearing for the rest of the day. Why? Wellllllllllll, it means I'm sitting on my couch, eating popcorn, and watching some Disney movies. Let’s talk about our three POVS: Good mother Claire, evil scientist madam Frankenstein Jillian (Don’t forget, this name firstly belonged to the doctor not to the patched man they’ve created) and our miracle child Abby. As is usually the case, I went into the story "blind" without re-reading the blurb so to say that "that is not what I was expecting" is an understatement! In a good way!Earlier this year I suggested you could also wait to watch a new series based on Valentino’s books entitled Book of Enchantments that was under development for Disney+. That project was abandoned in late August 2019, so that option is no longer available. Apparently Disney thought the series was “too dark” for their family-friendly streaming service.

Unfortunately, this book dragged. This is the biggest book in the series so far, and I feel like it could have been shorter. I understand why Serena Valentino felt like she needed to add this level of detail to Gothel's story, but I still think the book could have been shorter.PDF / EPUB File Name: Mother_Knows_Best__A_Tale_of_the_Old_Witch_-_Serena_Valentino.pdf, Mother_Knows_Best__A_Tale_of_the_Old_Witch_-_Serena_Valentino.epub To be honest, I do get a good deal of satisfaction out of reading these stories for the sheer absurdity that is contained within. Every story seems to push this strange fascination the author has with sisters and their relationships with each other. It reads as a childish form of wish fulfilment the author has into what it might be like to have sisters and what one might do for them. Again, sounds good on paper, but clearly the author does not have sisters as every interaction is forced, and the dialogue at no point resembles any that siblings might have. At multiple times throughout the series, the author describes in great detail how nice it must be for sisters to be able to read each others minds, and the OCs are constantly and irritatingly interrupting actual Disney characters with ham-fisted "Woops, I just read your mind, did you forget I could do that? Because I can. Hey! I can read your mind! Did I just tell you that, because I'm going to point it out at every possible moment!" A mother’s worst nightmare, a chance at redemption, and a deadly secret that haunts a family across the generations. Thank you to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books and Kira Peikoff for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
