About this deal

Don't miss the Breakfast Club Investigators next adventure in The Breakfast Club Adventures: The Ghoul in the School! LAURA: Excellent. OK. OK, Alex, I've got one for you here. As a writer, how do you create a sense of suspense and mystery in an opening chapter? I mean, you know, you wanna keep the readers wanting to read more, right? LAURA: –Yeah, that's a good-, that's a good tip. OK, Marta, this one's for you. As an illustrator, how do you decide what you're going to draw in a book? Oof, OK, let me think about this one. I learned basic skills in the kitchen thanks to [the chef] Tom Kerridge. I only really began cooking this year when I launched Full Time Meals with Tom. It’s designed to help children and adults find their confidence in the kitchen on limited budgets and with limited equipment. It was created to support the uptake of the Healthy Start scheme but is really an opportunity for families to spend some valuable time together in the kitchen when day trips or activities are limited by budget.

Inspired by Marcus’s own experiences growing up, The Breakfast Club Adventures: The Beast Beyond the Fence is the first fiction book by England International footballer, child-poverty campaigner and bestselling author Marcus Rashford MBE. Breakfast Club, according to Marcus, gave them the best possible start to their day as it welcomed them with open arms. It was not just about the food, but about forming friendships, about escape, and about togetherness. It was where some of his best memories were made. He wanted to capture this same feeling in his debut fiction book. When you come from a place of struggle and pain, a lot of the time it switches and it becomes your drive and motivation." 'Have they experienced these things?' - Rashford's campaign beginsNone of them! I love them all, but I really enjoy my private time at home with my family and my childhood friends. Breakfast Club guaranteed I had the best possible start to my day and welcomed me with open arms. It wasn't just about food. It was about forming friendships, about togetherness, about escape. It was where some of my greatest memories were made. I want to capture that For Lindsay Boswell of FareShare, that could be the ultimate result of Rashford’s extraordinary campaign: “We might finally start to see the major political parties trying to outdo each other in articulating how rapidly they will end food poverty in the UK.” He smiles. He has got a lovely smile – gentle, generous, bashful. “To be honest with you, I didn’t understand that football can change your life in that sense. Thankfully, it has managed to do that for me, and I’ve managed to give the younger people in my family – my nieces and nephews – different opportunities from the ones that I and my older brothers and sisters had. Hopefully it changes things for generations for my family. It’s important to do the right thing; to bring others with you along the way.” Dive into an exciting and mysterious adventure full of fun-filled friendships, fantastical creatures and incredible investigations by the #1 bestselling author Marcus Rashford!

He trained for a week with Manchester City before he joined the academy system at Manchester United when he was just seven years old, amid interest from Liverpool and Everton. He credited his brothers with helping him decide to join United. The Breakfast Club Investigators have not solved a mystery in months now and Marcus has been worried that this group will break up. When Gbenga, captain of the school’s basketball team, asks them for help Marcus knows that this may just be the investigator’s final chance to prove themselves. Paul McGuinnness, former United youth coach, soon saw Marcus’ potential because of his athleticism both off and on the ball. Yet during his early years on the team, he often was forced to miss training since he found it tough to get a ride because of brothers and mom working. He eventually got assistance from coaches that helped him find drivers to get to practice. It’s a big football year so I’m looking forward to everything that that brings. I have my first fiction book, The Breakfast Club Adventures, launching in May, which I’m really excited about. Breakfast club was a safe haven for me, and I wanted to capture the unity and togetherness of that space. A space where my lifelong friendships were formed. A space that started our day the right way, with energy and adventure. I’m working on that at the moment with my co-author, Alex Falase-Koya, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the children react to it. I’m also looking forward to seeing how You Are a Champion is received in the United States, as we launch it there on 7 June. When Rashford pointed out it was now half-term and that many children would be going hungry, the response was astonishing. From the smallest cafes to the biggest supermarkets there were offers of free meals and food to people in need. As Rashford retweeted the pledges, he gave a voice to the generosity of people all over the country, in stark contrast to the government. There is a lovely dedication at the beginning of You Are A Champion: “To every young person who is trying to find their way. To my mum, for helping me believe that dreams can come true.” Rashford’s mother, Mel, is at the heart of the book and his life. He is the youngest of five siblings, and, by the time he came on the scene, Melanie Rashford was a single mother. She worked every hour she could, holding down three jobs: as a cashier at Ladbrokes, returning there after her shift ended to start another as a cleaner, and washing pots at the weekends. And still it wasn’t enough. Mel was loving, self-sacrificing and often absent because she was working day and night. Rashford has not read Relentless once or twice, but again and again. “Every time I read it, I analyse it and highlight things in a certain colour. Then the next time I read it, I’ll highlight things in a different colour, and I’ll compare what I learned that time with the previous time,” he says. Grover has helped him deal with what he calls the “hero one week, zero the next” nature of his job: “Balancing my mood and emotion. Never getting too high, so that the low feels even lower. Just keeping that consistency and that stability.” It’s not the fact that he has read this book, but the way he has that tells you something about Rashford; about his ambition, his dedication, and his relentless pursuit of the possible. It was almost like there was no emotional connection," Rashford says. "They were naming the things that they've been doing for the last six years, but if those things had worked then I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing."
