About this deal

What noise is this?’ said Othello. Desdemona was still moving. ‘Not dead?’ he said. ‘Not quite dead? I may be cruel but I’m still merciful. I wouldn’t have you lingering in your pain.’ He applied more pressure to the pillow. ‘So, so.’ This murder/mystery/thriller leaves you guessing who exactly Ali is, who Ethan is, because both have secrets and hidden desires. Desdemona herself adopts the narrative of being the property of others, saying she has preserved her body for Othello “from any other unlawful touch”. Yes, very soon. Therefore, confess your sin freely, because denying any of it under oath can’t remove my strong belief in your guilt. You’re going to die.’

At the end of Othello – after the deaths of Desdemona, Othello and Emilia – Lodovico describes the tragedy as the result of Iago’s villainy and Othello’s failings, rather than due to societal attitudes towards women, or systemic violence. Othello’s abuse of Desdemona matches the Commission’s description of family violence as a multifaceted pattern of escalating behaviour rather than a single event. Ethan on his undercover operation finds himself on a date with Ali. Not only does Ali become his number one suspect but she also becomes the woman of his dreams. Lodovico stared at Othello and shook his head. ‘Oh you, Othello, who was once so good’ he said. ‘Fallen into such evil. What can one say to you?’ She continued to shout, while Othnello stood, frozen. The door was still open and after a minute Montano and Gratiano, followed by Iago, arrived, running.Just do it and hurry,’ he said. ‘I’ll wait. I don’t want to kill your unprepared soul. No, heaven forbid, I don’t want to kill your soul.’ He looked up to the ceiling. ‘O, cursed, cursed slave,’ he roared. ‘Whip me away, you devils, from this heavenly sight. Blow me about in winds! Roast me in sulphur! Wash me in steep-sided gulfs of liquid fire!’ He lifted her body and held it against his. ‘Oh Desdemona! Dead Desdemona! Dead! Oh! Oh!’ Venetian society is barely aware of male violence towards women. Iago’s abuse of his wife Emilia, for instance, is not commented on or apparently even noticed by the other characters. The only rebuke of Othello is made by Lodovico (representative of the Venetian duke and senate) who, observing Othello strike Desdemona, tells him to “make amends” – but makes no other intervention.

Iago snarled at him. ‘Ask me nothing,’ he said. ‘You know what you know. From this moment I won’t speak a word.’Ethan Lane is a divorced, dad of three, PI with only one successful, manipulative client who would double dare him if he doesn't prove that her father's death isn't a suicide. After months of research, he's now closing leads on a woman who might be his main suspect. Ethan might have a thing or two of powerful, manipulative women and Ali Brown is just the woman for him, even though she might be a serial killer who kills every man she sleeps with. Which is way too many! Two interesting people have small roles in Kill Me Tomorrow. One is former Light Heavyweight Champion Freddie Mills, a sports hero in the British Isles plays one of Coulouris's thugs. Mills met a tragic end a few years later, a suicide that some think was murder. It’s unnatural to kill someone for loving,’ she said. ‘Why are you chewing your lower lip like that? Some terrible passion is shaking your whole body. These are signs of something but I hope against hope they’re not pointing at me.’ Ethan is a divorced father of three, in need of money. He has been hired by Camille to investigate her father’s death which is listed as suicide; she suspects he was murdered. Ethan has been on the case for several months; he has a lead suspect, a woman. There is a connection between all the victims…Beacon the dating app. Could Ali be the serial killer? She is influential, devious and everything Ethan wants in a woman. There is much more to Ethan’s story. By heaven!’ roared Othello. ‘I saw my handkerchief in his hand! Oh you perjured woman, you make my heart like stone and make me think of what I’m going to do as a murder rather than a sacrifice. I saw the handkerchief!’

The story is told by three different points of view: Ethan, Ali and an unknown character (who is revealed in the end). It will out, it will out!’ she said. ‘I shut up? No, I’ll speak as freely as the north wind. Let heaven and human beings and devils all cry shame against me, I’ll still speak out!’ Othello stood up and looked around. He had another sword somewhere in the room, a sharp Spanish sword. Ah, there it was. ‘Uncle,’ he called, ‘I have to come out.’ Desdemona herself is not so clever so that she can judge the plan of Iago. Now her lover does not love her like he did when they had newly fallen in love. Seed of suspicion in mind of Othello grew very soon and became jealous of Cassio’s courting with Desdemona (although it was not true). She is clueless why she has lost Othello’s trust and become an object of his suspicion. Othello is brave but not wise enough to explore Iago’s intrigue web. Firstly thank you to @Netgalley and @OrangeSkyAudio for the free audio version of this book for a free and honest review.Bell Shakespeare’s production of Othello is touring Australia until December 2016. What does the recent Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence tell us about the Venetian general’s murder of his wife Desdemona, and his subsequent suicide? How might the commission’s recommendations have prevented the violence in Shakespeare’s play? And how does a 21st-century perspective on family violence deepen our insights and pathos on viewing the play? Go on,’ Emilia was saying. ‘Contradict this villain, if you’re a man. He says you told him that his wife was unfaithful. I know you didn’t. I know you’re not such a villain.’ I always get excited when Britney King has a new book coming out, and Kill Me Tomorrow: A Psychological Thriller completely lived up to any expectations I might have had. This book was just as intense as her other novels, but I loved the addition of a PI (private investigator) to this storyline. I thought King's writing was spot on, and I found myself reading a bit slower than I normally do with her books, but without any less fervor. I was hooked from the beginning like I always am, and I had a ton of fun with the different points of view. I had a suspicion of what was going on, but I didn't have it completely pinned down and still managed to be surprised at the end. Kill Me Tomorrow is a dark and gritty psychological thriller worth every minute it takes to read.
