About this deal

Launched at IFA 2022, the Pad 8 is Honor’s latest tablet and I have been testing it ahead of the official release.

Despite running Android 12 with Honor’s Magic UI 6.1 skin plastered over the top, the Pad 8 sadly isn’t much different. Multi-window support is welcome, but otherwise it functions exactly the same as any Android smartphone. The app icons are also scaled to the resolution of the display rather than the size, and they look far too big on the homescreen as a result.

Performance is precisely as you’d expect for an affordable tablet. General navigation, app launches and boot times are reasonable, but the Snapdragon 680 starts to struggle if you ask too much of it. For instance, the Honor Pad 8 supports multitasking split-screen views, but you have to be careful which apps you decide to run side-by-side. Google Maps was a no-go, for instance, with performance becoming noticeably jittery. There’s 128GB storage, which isn’t too bad for a tablet of this price, and will likely be enough for most users – if you do need more, though, a microSD card slot gives you up to 512GB extra space. Honor Pad 8 software The Honor Pad 8 houses a Snapdragon 680,which has 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The Adreno 610 integrated in the SoC takes care of the graphics processing. As we’ve mentioned, the Honor Pad 8 has a 12-inch display. This screen size makes it one of the biggest tablets we’ve seen, save for premium models like the iPad Pro 12.9 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus or Ultra.

Software is the make-or-break feature for tablets, and the Honor-designed Magic UI sadly falls down onto the ‘break’ side of things. The resolution is 1,920 x 1,200. The test data comes from the HONOR Laboratory. Actual size may vary depending on the configuration, manufacturing process, and measurement method. The measurement data standard calculates the screen ratio based on the area of the screen's visible area to the area of the front panel of the whole device.

The Honor Pad 8 is a very affordable 12-inch tablet, but is a little too sparing in terms of equipment Photos and videos taken by the main and selfie camera are of modest quality. As a result, photos are not particularly sharp and are always somewhat washed out. On other hand, both cameras together reproduce colors quite vividly and realistically. However, the main camera cannot cope with low-light shots and hardly brings out details. The star of the show is the Honor Pad 8’s giant 12in display. It might be a fairly unremarkable IPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate, but the total pixel count of 2,000 x 1,200 is significantly higher than resolutions you typically see on tablets at this price. TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification test conditions: With Eye Protection mode enabled, the screen display passes the TÜV Rheinland low blue light test (excluding the color temperature adjustment portion).

The APP must support this feature, the actual effect will depend on the APP, the feature will update Compared to many other Android tablets on the market, the Honor Tab 8 is pretty large, and you’re certainly not going to be using it one-handed.

A much-welcome software feature is multi-window viewing, including a split-screen mode that is really useful for multi-tasking between two different apps as the same time in a way that’s a little closer to the desktop experience with a screen as big as this one. Battery Life Supports a maximum of 22.5W wired charging using the 22.5W HONOR charger and cable. Actual charging speed Multi-windows mode is not supported by every app, but it functioned flawlessly with a number of apps in our tests, including YouTube, Chrome, Google Photos and Honor's own note-taking app, Memo.
