About this deal

There came word in June 2012 that Angelina Jolie had—if there was any truth to the rumor at all— perhaps had an informal discussion about directing the movie, having made her feature directorial debut in 2011 with Land of Milk and Honey. There are so many fans of that book and I know that on the surface, I'm probably not what everybody imagined," the British actor told Entertainment Weeklyin October 2013. "Because reading is so personal and people bring a character to life in their imagination, they feel ownership over that character." He added, "That's daunting if I allowed myself to think about it too much. I'm taking it very seriously and intend to explore the nature of who this character is, what motivates him—and also dress up nice and look good in those suits." You are cordially invited to the wedding of the decade, when Christian Grey will make Anastasia Steele his wife. But is he really husband material? His dad is unsure, his brother wants to organize one helluva bachelor party, and his fiancée won’t vow to obey… Casting rumors ran rampant as to who would play Christian and Ana ( Matt Bomer was flattered; Emma Watson was not; Taylor-Johnson wanted Robert Pattinson), but Charlie Hunnam really was planning to make the film his next big project after Sons of Anarchy ended. Gus Van Sant, who like Bret Easton Ellis pictured a more graphic, possibly NC-17 film, and Danish director Susanne Bier were the last two names on a shortlist that James and Focus Features had whittled down—but producer Michael De Luca had been a producer on a movie Sam Taylor-Johnson was going to do before it fell apart, and suggested she take a meeting about Fifty Shades.

But in the end, it's Ana who will always be front and center in his life, and all he does to not only protect her but love her that is at the center of this book and story. Their 'battles' for power are a delight to watch and this newly-wedded version of Christian clearly has found his soulmate and determined sparring partner who won't let him get away with anything. And he's finally ok with that. Not to mention his match in the bedroom as well keeping those fires burning hot as they simply cannot get enough of each other. Yeah, I enjoyed those scenes again very much. I didn't want [Dakota or Jamie] to have to come re-shoot those kinds of scenes," the director told Vanity Fair. Elena introduced Christian to the BDSM lifestyle. Following her rules helped him channel his anger and gave him the ability to focus on goals. He stayed with her five years before spreading his wings. He works long hours and doesn’t have much down time, but in addition to flying and boating, he enjoys unwinding with a sub in his playroom. It is a secret pleasure – and he intends to keep it that way. His family hasn’t a clue – he has never brought a girl home before; Elliot thinks he is a monk. Christian has since gone through many submissives over the years. He always enters into contractual agreements with the women so there are never any misunderstandings. It is the only kind of relationship he is capable of, and once the women want more from him he cuts ties. Susannah was his latest, and that ended about two months ago. You are cordially invited to the wedding of the decade, when Christian Grey will make Anastasia Steele his wife. But is he really husband material? His dad is unsure, his brother wants to organize one helluva bachelor party, and his fiancée won't vow to obey... And marriage brings its own challenges. Their passion for each other burns hotter and deeper than ever, but Ana's defiant spirit continues to stir Christian's darkest fears and tests his need for control. As old rivalries and resentments endanger them both, one misjudgment threatens to tear them apart.

She was a producer on each of the three Fifty Shades movies, which made more than a billion dollars at the box office. The third installment, Fifty Shades Freed, won the People’s Choice Award for Drama in 2018. Jolie went with the adaptation of Unbroken—the beyond-inspiring story of Olympic athlete turned World War II pilot Louis Zamperini, who crashed, survived 47 days floating in a life raft and then survived a POW camp—for her follow-up project instead.

To make everything as comfortable as possible for Johnson and Dornan during the sex scenes, Taylor-Johnson tried to downsize the crew in the room as much as possible. Mirroring, of course, the original Fifty Shades Freed, this newly-married version of CG has a real sweetness about him. His disbelief that a woman like Ana could not only love him but decide to become his wife continues to surprise him at every turn. Getting pivotal scenes in his POV really gave this entire storyline the bits of extra I was always curious about and James did not disappoint. Christian's continued worry about the safety of Ana and always wanting to be the master of his universe can be trying but she really does get him, loving him fiercely and all of his fifty shades. And marriage brings its own challenges. Their passion for each other burns hotter and deeper than ever, but Ana’s defiant spirit continues to stir Christian’s darkest fears and tests his need for control. As old rivalries and resentments endanger them both, one misjudgment threatens to tear them apart. Can Christian overcome the nightmares of his childhood and the torments of his youth, and save himself? And once he's discovered the truth of his origins, can he find forgiveness and accept Ana's unconditional love? Days later, he exited the project, officially due to a scheduling conflict but reportedly due to creative differences with the film's creative team, including Sam Taylor-Johnson, as well as second thoughts about whether it was the right career move for him.
