Cats perform a unique version of meditation where they can focus on an object (a bird, a bug, or even you are sleeping!) for extended periods of time. We cats are the most habitual of creatures. Preferred sun loungers, meal times, hidey holes, and scratching posts are among the considerations in which we take daily satisfaction. And it is exactly because many humans embrace routine that we even consider allowing them to share our homes, let alone retain them as members of our staff. Glavni lik je mačka (Rinpoche, Snježni Lav, MNJS... dali su joj razna imena) koja nam u prvom licu priča o svom životu. Udomljuje ju nitko drugi nego Dalaj lama i ona u njegovoj rezidenciji doživljava razne zgode i nezgode većinom prouzročene njenim mačjim karakterom. Kroz njene dogodovštine provlači se i priča o budizmu i njegovim načelima, ali onako lagano, taman koliko treba da bi bilo zanimljivo. Maca i sama razmišlja o značenju tih načela i pokušava sebe učiniti boljom s obzirom na njih (ne biti proždrljiva, ne samosažaljevati se nego krenuti u promjenu, naučiti se strpljenju...). Baš mi je zgodno kako maca svoje dogodovštine poistovjećuje sa savjetima koje čuje te se na osnovu njih trudi promijeniti.
My interest in Buddhism and in the Dalai Lama, together with my adoption two months ago of a darling year-old cat, prompted me to read this new novel "The Dalai Lama's Cat" by David Michie. A resident of Australia, Michie has written a number of popular introductions to Buddhism with titles such as "Buddhism for Busy People" and "Enlightenment on the Go." His novel has an appealing surface simplicity and accessibility. And after finishing the book I am still not sure, but I don't give a f***. I really liked the heart warming tone of it with some major principles of one of the greatest religions explained in a simple and encouraging way. There's some humour in it and a lot of wisdom too. Their mind and body transform with this insight meditation. One these flat characters even peppers her language with random italian words, much like a caricature. Heh. It is a very nice and funny story, but it also teaches us some important teachings of Buddhism. It can't be considered a deep book about Buddhism, nor a self-help or something like this. It is simply the story of this cat, her daily worries and problems, and she shares what she learns with the reader: to be more compassionate, to don't think always only about ourselves, that we don't have to live a life influenced by our fears, that things aren't always as we imagine, that there is no need to be afraid of changes in life because they can lead to something better, etc. These principles are explained by the Dalai Lama's cat in a flowing and funny way, it is not at all preachy. When “Mu!” bears fruit, quite spontaneously inside and out will become one. You will end up like a dumb man who has awoken from dreaming. You will know yourself-but only for yourself. “Mu!” will suddenly explode, shaking the earth and opening the heavens. ~ Zen Master EkaiBuddhism is a religion that must be practiced, as the only one who can help you is…you. Bodhisattva Cat would be a solid anti-Floating unit if not for the existence of Bishop Cat, whose True Form, Sanzo Cat, does everything Bodhisattva Cat does and more. Bodhisattva may have the higher stats, but when it comes to stalling Floating enemies, there's just no beating Sanzo's spammability. This cookie is set by Addthis. As a story, there's not a huge amount of substance, but for those looking for more in their lives who maybe aren't too keen on delving into the genre of self-help/development or spiritual, this is a great read. Not only do they live longer, but they will be removed from the poisons of being in heat (sexual misconduct), scratching others (anger/hatred), and meowing loudly at other cats at midnight.
