About this deal

The modern trend is to install down lights. However, such lighting does have a negative effect on insulation properties due to the amount of down lights required. Building regulations require a gap between your down lights and insulation. A generous gap ensures the down light will not overheat. Did you know that LED down lights can get very hot too due to there large heat sinks? Loft Legs are strong and can support weights of 500kg however, they do not change the load bearing characteristics of a loft. All faulty/damaged goods issues will be dealt with on a case by case basis and best endeavours will be made to rectify within a timely manner. Manufacturers’ warranties will apply in certain cases. These boards have a tongue and grove system, which means they simply slot together. The separate boards are narrow enough to get through your loft hatch.

Loft Legs are designed for domestic use only and are not intended for use as a flooring substrate or surface in a permanent living space.Martin Lewis: What the Autumn Statement means for you – including wages, benefits, pensions, ISAs, housing, national insurance and more As you have already laid the 200mm of fibreglass technically option B is the only one you can take. With option A you be reducing the level of insulation from one that meets current regulations (min 270mm) to one that does not which is illegal as you would be making it worse. Now screw the board into the legs beneath it using 2 per leg. This board should also have a total of 8 screws fixed into the loft legs. In the unlikely event that your delivery is not correct or damaged please notify us immediately and mark any issues on the delivery slip.

Loft boarding involves moving insulation around. Usually insulation is of the glass fibre wool type. This type of insulation is harmful to your lungs if breathed in. Please do the sensible thing and ensure you wear protection.

Usually customers go for standard glass fibre insulation. It is the most cost effective solution. Loft Ventilation

Manufactured in the UK from recycled materials, the Loft Leg is designed to be strong enough to walk on and store up to 50kg per square metre. Thermal studies have shown that pressing your insulation can reduce its thermal properties by more than 50%, the Loft Leg avoids insulation compression saving energy and money. It's only a 9cm difference but if only those loft legs were 8.5cm high and id be as sweet as a nut. The loft legs can be spread apart a maximum distance of 600mm centres. This means they are ideal for joists that are spaced 600mm or under. The diagrams in this post show how to install loft legs for 300mm joists, just to give you an idea of how you go about installing them. How to Board your Loft – Step by Step Guide Step 1 – Remove the Old InsulationNeed to shave off 9cm or get new ladder specc'ed for a 2.7m height.By adding 20cm of height to the existing joists, the floor to loft floorboard height would become approximately 2.69m. Meaning, when I stand on the last step of the ladder, I will need t lift up and over kinda to plant my foot on the floor as opposed to side stepping onto the floor. Make sure the orientation of the loft board is correct. Tongue and groove boards are designed to slot together. Compressed loft roll insulation can compromise thermal performance and reduce the energy efficiency of your home. Was originally going to install 7" or 8" x 2" cross battens onto existing joists and affix loft boards to these. Having read another post here I'm thinking that I'll use a smaller section timber (to save weight and cost) and simply cut sections of the timber off to use as legs at each joist (see attached drawing ).
