We found moving video footage to be pretty stable thanks to the built in stability control of the drone – according to Parrot this is good in wind conditions of up to 15MPH. Overall When it comes to fun the JJRC H8D drone has it in abundance. It has some of the nicest looking LED lighting we have seen, is capable of plenty of flips and rolls and 3D stunts as well as having a one key return which is great for beginners.

A relatively new player to the market is the MJX Bugs 2 WiFi drone which has a number of features associated with much more expensive drones. First off, it has an excellent 1080p HD camera on board and also features GPS with a range of up to 1km (0.5km with video for FPV). If you complain about your family not getting enough outdoor time, buying them one of these flying drones is sure to get the entire family outdoors for some fresh air. Best of all, you can run them all year long, as long as it’s not raining or snowing. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition makes a great gift, whether for birthday or Christmas. Standard features that you might expect include 3D flips and rolls, altitude hold, one touch take off/landing and a headless flying mode. If you fly out of range then you can expect to here the alarm beeping so you will know to fly a little closer to where you are. Every feature provided in this drone is very advanced and the performance it gives is awesome and completely worth the price. The overall design and build quality of this drone is pretty awesome and is highly recommended for beginner use.

The downfall of this drone is that it can only be used with a smartphone or tablet. It connects to its own WiFi, which limits the flight, and can have a poor connection. Flight This drone is not just about the social media sharing though, although we do think it is pretty cool that there is no need for cables, SD cards and the like when it comes to storing your footage as your phone/tablet will store it on the fly (you see what we did there). Here we are in 2019 and we have the updated 2.0 version of their much applauded AR Drone and there have been some impressive upgrades made. Parrot have been making RC toy aircraft’s long before the big players that now dominate the drone market. The Parrot Elite 2.0 is a great drone for beginners as it has some really cool features that make it easier to fly this drone. When it comes to piloting the X4 it is perfect for beginners and more advanced pilots. There is a 1 key return to home feature, follow me and altitude hold as standard, the addition of GPS to this quadcopter is what really seals the deal – it works brilliantly too. The 1080p full HD onboard camera is excellent and provides you with the ability to take some excellent footage. When the drone is stable with altitude hold you can get some simply stunning shots and they record on an SD card which is handy for extra storage.

The Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition comes in a choice of 3 trims; Jungle, Snow and Sand – we opted for Snow and at the time of testing we managed to get a great price on this version compared to the other two. The battery slips easily into the drone, and the hull snaps on (rather loosely, actually, but it works just fine). Wi-Fi pairing can take a couple tries, especially if your smartphone is paired with your home Wi-Fi; you might want to go into your smartphone settings and look for the drone's Wi-Fi. The first thing to note is that the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 sits in the low to mid price range. So whilst it is not anywhere near the high end premium models such as the Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro it is also not classed as an out and out budget drone either. Coming to this section, where you will get to know the camera function available on this drone. So, this drone is powered by a very powerful camera with a resolution of 720p. This drone has a very good high definition camera which lets you capture awesome shots in just one go. Range: The onboard Wi-Fi extends only about half the length of a football field, and conditions can cause the range to vary, the company says. When the drone is out of range, it will self-stabilize, and you simply move closer and regain control. But it is a frustratingly short range. I would definitely suggest purchasing more batteries as flying this drone for just 12 minutes will not fulfill your flying needs. If however, you buy the power edition you can expect a flight time of around 30 minutes.

Aside from the WiFi lag we found the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 a dream to fly and had no issues in wind in terms of stability and we tested it in some quite testing conditions. The only other real downside to the usability of this device was the range of flight, this was limited to around 20 metres – again this is a serious limitation of the WiFi communication between controller (mobile phone) and the drone itself. That being said, 20 metres will be fine for most users and particularly if using in more built up areas. The AR.Drone 2.0 has a second hull that has foam guard rings to protect the drone’s rotors during indoor flight, where the risk of crashing is higher. (Image credit: Robert Roy Britt) In addition to the easy to use controller, LCD monitor, quadcopter and batteries you will also get a very handy carry case, an extra motor, 4GB memory card, USB card reader, the battery charger and a monitor charger – you will also get 4 spare blades in case of damage – although the propellers are well protected so you shouldn’t be too concerned about that.Overall, we loved the Hubsan H501S X4, if nothing else it provided an excellent FPV experience at a fraction of the cost of some other drones and the return to home and built in GPS were very reliable and a lifesaver at times. The elite 2.0 has another variation called the power edition, the main difference between this and the elite is the battery life in the power edition is much longer and the drone is a bit more expensive. The flight experience you are going to experience with this drone is quite interesting and enjoyable. This drone is designed beautifully since it stays stable in the air for as much time as you want it to. This drone will let you focus on smaller areas by constantly hovering around them.

Nowadays, Parrot are just as well respected for their drone tech as they are for any of their other hardware lines and rightly so. The France based tech company were the first company to really bring drones to the mass market for domestic use and they also had a big part to play in showing the world that drones were not just fun to use but could also be incredibly safe to use. Officially, as announced by the company the average flight time is approximately 12 minutes which is somewhat good for the new users. An extra feature includes that this drone can be used easily by connecting it to the VR headsets. This will give you the best experience, you could ever have. The AR FreeFlight App,which is parrots official drone app, allows you to pilot this device quite easily the app also comes with a myriad of advanced controls such as limiting the drones speed and attitude. The camera-I don't know how they say it's 720p. It consistently (if you can get the usb to record) looks terrible. Looks great on your phone as you fly, but looking at it on any thing bigger is terrible quality. Shame.

Camera wise, you are getting a 720p HD camera that holds its own among some of the bigger brands and whilst it might not have a built in gimbal it does have 3 axis and 3 accelerometers to ensure smooth flight. The manufacturers recommend that this drone is used by anyone 12 years plus so with some close supervision it is also a drone that the kids can enjoy. This drone does not have an option to store pictures captured and videos recorded on the micro SD Card. There is no onboard storage available in this drone.
