About this deal

For a closer look at the Pilot Vanishing Point & Decimo, take a look at this wonderful article from Kimberly over at penaddict.com which was coincidentally published right as I was finishing this. After alightment there was a smoother experience but the tines sing, ever so slightly. Not a big deal for me though. I did smooth the tipping a bit and the experience was much improved. I thought the Platinum Curidas clone by Lanbitou (model 3088?), though not by Majohn, was the worst of the copies so far?

I have several Moonman pens, and they all write nicely right out of the box. I haven't had any fall apart or be just horrible. Thanks for your thoughtful discussion on the ethics on copying. In this specific case, I remember reading somewhere that Pilot had patents on the VP design, which have expired fairly recently. This is why for a long time since its release in the 60’s VP was unique in the market. Capless’ design makes it my ideal daily, on the go pen, and I don’t see myself going to another pen anytime soon for that use so I was actually somewhat relieved that I could get an A1 and won’t be too bothered if it’s lost or damaged.Alignment was not hot, I had to manually align the nib tines. They weren't terrible, but the alignment was clear the minute you stoked from left to right. I bought my standard gold nib version of capless in 2020 and wrote with it daily for 2 years when I learnt about A1’s existence. Hey, thanks for providing the comparison write up. Was only able to reply recently despite viewing it a couple of days ago. The nib unit is not flush with the clip. Now, correct me if I'm wrong Vanishing Point owners, but I don't think this is normal. Anyway, for the price it's good. Great, actually. It's remarkable how similar and well (mostly) Chinese manufacturing can be.

There really isn't many differences other than weight and the "body band" that has the Moonman logo instead of the two rounded rings that the Pilot alternative uses. Everything else is very similar if not identical.Der er to tilgængelige spiltilstande, både med fordels-funktioner og uden. Aktivering af fordels-funktioner lader brugeren fortryde, se tips, og blande resterende brikker på bordet, hvis der ikke er flere tilgængelige træk. Spilstatistikker opbevares særskilt for disse to spiltilstande. For at se den relevante statistik skal brugeren vælge den passende spiltilstand. And that’s what it comes down to, really. Dollars and sense. I love talking about pens and showing people new and interesting pens and answering any questions I can about them. But when it comes time to suggest to any individual that they should spend close to two hundred dollars on a pen (in this economy? In any economy?), I still feel like that’s a big ask. At the end of the day the classic, stylish, functional Pilot Vanishing Point just pushes the limits of accessibility for the average user. Pieces like the Majohns we looked at today offer an affordable entry point to the wider world of fountain pens, and that is an objectively good thing.

So we could say that the Pilot EF is finer with roughly the same conditions. I'll probably buy the Pilot 18K EF nib unit later on so thanks on making up my mind on that front. As far as the ones Moonman/Majohn has done, I thought the most blatant was actually the Moonman F9, if that's what you meant by ‘worst’ (not by product quality or performance, but sheer brazenness). For that matter, I don't think either Sailor or Pilot sound particularly classy as brand names; but they have earned brand recognition from hobbyists, and positive association with quality or even middle-class luxury, over the past decades in their respective century-long histories.)I'll concede that I personally prefer the Moonman name, which is less jarring to Western eyes and ears, than Majohn. However, in a way, jarring is exactly what it can be expected to be, given that implicit in the name change is a big fat "screw you" to Kaweco's antics. Whereas I'd be happy for the pens to be clearly, or even prominently, branded Majohn instead of Moonman on the exterior. A name is just a name, and quite frankly neither of those sounds classier than each other.
