About this deal

Part of an ongoing series of 29Secrets stories, taking a deep dive into the history of legendary beauty products and iconic fashion and pop culture moments… Making Faces” is a romance novel set in present day Hannah Lake, Pennsylvania. Fern Taylor really like Ambrose but Ambrose only made jokes about about her looks. When Ambrose and his 4 best friends were sent to Iraq, a tragic deed was done. There vehicle was blown up and ended up killing everyone except for Ambrose. Fern was terrified because when she got the news she didn't know what had happened to him and in all that had happened she still loved him.He was okay but was scared inside and out, half of his body was burnt and rough. When Fern approached him so passionately he felt as if he was not good enough for her and she was doing it out of pity. But in time her learned to love her as much, if not more, than she had loved him all those years.

He was in a long-term relationship with Eric Sakas, who remained a close friend after their breakup. Sakas later became president and creative director of Kevyn Aucoin Beauty. [2]Broverman, Neal (September 14, 2017). "Remembering the Flawed Beauty of Makeup God Kevyn Aucoin". The Advocate . Retrieved March 21, 2018. Kevyn does a really great job of encouraging the reader to experiment with makeup, and not just with colors, but also with the way you apply it, location, tools, and more. He does a GREAT job of summarizing styles throughout the decades and gives you step-by-step instructions with color and makeup suggestions for you to replicate the looks. I especially loved the history of the "Eyebrow" (30s thin brows)and "lip" (50s full lip). I really loved the "film noir" and "hollywood bombshell" looks. As a child, he was effeminate, loved Vogue magazine and all fashion magazines, blasted Barbra Streisand and was completely fascinated by makeup. He was relentlessly targeted by bullies for much of his childhood but, despite this adversity, his passion for makeup always prevailed. He borrowed makeup artist Way Bandy’s 1977 instruction manual entitled Designing Your Face: An Illustrated Guide to Cosmetics from the local public library (failing to ever return it), and increasingly saw physical transformation through makeup as his way out of small-town life, once saying: “If I could just make things look better, things would be better.”

Aucoin made appearances on Good Morning America and The Oprah Winfrey Show. [17] He played as himself in an episode of Sex and the City called "The Real Me" (Season 4, Episode 2), doing Carrie Bradshaw's makeup for a fashion show during New York Fashion Week. In addition, he appeared with Cher in "Gypsies, Tramps, and Weed" (Season 3, Episode 7) of Will & Grace.

Kevyn was ahead of his time – [he] somehow gravitated toward celebrities,” explained famed hairstylist Orlando Pita of the makeup artist’s game-changing instinct to build relationships with Hollywood icons and pioneer the industry’s red-carpet culture. In 2018, years after his death, a feature documentary titled Larger Than Life: The Kevyn Aucoin Story hit screens, chronicling the extraordinary life of the first celebrity makeup artist. Directed by Tiffany Bartok, the film relied heavily on Aucoin’s detailed video diaries, complemented by countless celebrity interviews singing his praises.

I tried to recreate one of Kevyn's looks on Lisa Marie Presley, which has always been one of my favourites. It's a far cry from anything he could do before he passed away, but I felt like sharing for the sake of the review. I should also note that the instructions regarding application are far from ample, but personally I skimmed over these parts. In the makeup world, Kevyn Aucoin’s iconic 1997 book Making Faces is largely considered the bible of its field—and not without reason. Many pros remember the first time they pored through the late visionary's how-to tome, and the subsequent visceral reaction they had to it. "When I was 17 or 18, I got it as a gift from a friend of mine who knew it was my dream to be a makeup artist," explains makeup artist Sandy Ganzer. "This is not hyperbole...it changed my life." Kardashian’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, who these days is regularly credited as the king of contouring, defers to Aucoin…rightfully so. “Kevyn was the first one to put that out for the world to see,” he says. Later, Aucoin would work with Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido on their Inoui line. [12] He would later be approached by both Vincent Longo and Laura Mercier to endorse their eponymous lines, [ citation needed] but decided to launch his own brand, Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, in 2001 instead.Cher once recalled walking into beauty store Make Up For Ever with Aucoin: “It was like Brad Pitt walked in.” For those like me who loved Kevyn the person, the heart now weeps as if made of watercolor. Earth has lost yet another light. Aucoin was interested in makeup from the time he was a child, [4] and frequently did his sisters' makeup and photographed the results with a Polaroid camera—something he'd do throughout his career. Afraid to buy makeup, he would shoplift it. The guilt of stealing and fear of getting caught made him stop. [2] Today, the Makeup Museum unveils a vast, never-before-seen digital archive of the journals that Aucoin, widely considered the world’s first celebrity makeup artist, kept between 1983 to 1994. They document his Hollywood rolodex (Hello, Tina and Liza!), meetings with all-star collaborators and supermodel confidantes (Cindy, Linda, and Paulina...to name a few), and candid Polaroids snapped on iconic photoshoot sets, from Vogue editorials with Irving Penn to a Chanel campaign with Claudia Schiffer. Altogether, Aucoin’s personal notebooks offer a raw and authentic look into his day to day, the hustle and glamour of it.
