Yellow recycling bins are used to collect textiles such as clothes, bed linens, and towels. You most likely won’t have one of these at home, but you will find them at your local recycling bank. Textile recycling bins are sometimes orange in colour, but they are usually clearly marked and easy to identify due to their unique apertures. Requests for a larger green bin will be considered on an individual basis. You must apply for a larger green bin, which requires you to complete an application form and also a waste audit diary. If you do not use all the kerbside recycling services including the weekly food waste service we will not consider your larger green bin application. You can renew your garden waste subscription up to 6 weeks in advance of your renewal date. Your new 12-month subscription will start from the date your current subscription ends. We have extended customers’ subscriptions to reflect collections missed during the periods in Summer 2021 and Winter 2021-22 when the service was paused due to the impact of COVID-19 pressures on workforce. We will empty up to five garden waste bins from a residential property as long as they are presented safely. How do I pay? Please note: This service is only available to those residents where no member of the household is able to move the bins. Please do not present bagged waste next to your green bin, the collection teams will not collect it. It contains non-recyclable items. Ottawa, Ontario has a Green Bin program in operation since January 2010, with service to apartments and multi-residential units to follow.
In the interest of health and safety, please ensure that your bins are presented at the kerbside for collection without anything attached, including rope or bungee cords, as this can become entangled with our lifting equipment and is a danger to operatives. What can I put in my green bin?
Yes you can, but we would discourage this – your grey bin would soon fill up and you wouldn’t have room for your household waste. It’s also better for the environment to compost this waste. For an alternative to having your green waste collected, you might want to try home composting instead. If I don’t want my green bin will you remove it?
