About this deal

Trivalent Metal Plating – superior anti-corrosion and anti-seizing properties – no anti-seize lubricant needed! This nifty little tool only costs a few quid and will help you set the correct gap for your spark plug. However, modern plugs are almost all motorcycle-specific fit and so they come ‘pre-gapped’ and you won’t need to touch them. If you’re running a classic bike, you’ll probably need to set your gap and if your bike’s not running right, a gap tool can help you rule out a potential incorrect gap issue. The NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs utilise a 0.6mm laser welded fine iridium tip which ensures high durability and a consistently stable spark along with a tapered ground electrode which minimizes electrical quenching effect. The longer insulator nose prevents fouling, the corrugated ribs on the insulator prevent flashover and a triple gasket seal eliminates combustion gas leakage.

If someone has "high motor temperatures" then they have more to worry about than the firing end design (or material) of their spark plugs. The firing end ceramic insulator shape is what mainly determines the heat range of the spark plug. The heat range is the most important factor to consider when replacing your plugs. Just don't install a heat range hotter than what is recommended - you will risk pre-ignition.

If the engine is running dangerously lean the whole plug tip will be grey or white. If the temperature is over 850-degrees, pre-ignition may occur. Engine power will be reduced and you risk piston damage.

Spark Plug Removal

The firing end ceramic insulator shape is what mainly determines the heat range of the spark plug. The heat range is the most important factor to consider when replacing your plugs. Just don't install a heat range hotter than what is recommended - you will risk pre-ignition. So what is the heat range of a spark plug. Is it related to the temp the spark plug can endure or the length of the spark or what? Install each spark plug by hand until you have wound the thread a couple of turns. This reduces the chances of you cross-threading the plug. Most engine designs will respond favorably to a plug with better ignitability. If you don't notice a difference using your five senses - then probably only a gas analyzer will show the improvement. If that is the case, and you don't care how long it is between your plug replacement intervals, then don't bother spending the extra money. Allows the use of an extremely small diameter electrode (0.6mm) without compromising the spark plug’s service life Err kind of agree, as I was told, there are two parts to the electrode, one which is made from steel. Steel conducts electricity and is magnetic but is it gets too red hot it becomes austenitic, doesn’t like to conduct electricity and becomes nonmagnetic so becomes more an insulator. This is safety for your engine because it will promote a miss and cool the motor down.

The improved throttle response, superior anti-fouling and high ignitability are what makes Iridium IX ideal for the performance enthusiast. Designed specifically for the performance enthusiast Iridium IX offers extreme ignitability, improved throttle response and superior anti fouling. If the plug is brown or light grey your can assume your engine is in good condition and the spark plug is functioning well. Even when a plug is in good condition small deposits will accumulate. This is normal. Rich

Motorcycle Spark Plug FAQ

I run NGK iridium plugs. I get them cheap because I am a Test Engineer for NGK (not bragging - just throwing that out there to lend credibility to my words.)
