This nifty little tool only costs a few quid and will help you set the correct gap for your spark plug. However, modern plugs are almost all motorcycle-specific fit and so they come ‘pre-gapped’ and you won’t need to touch them. If you’re running a classic bike, you’ll probably need to set your gap and if your bike’s not running right, a gap tool can help you rule out a potential incorrect gap issue. The NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs utilise a 0.6mm laser welded fine iridium tip which ensures high durability and a consistently stable spark along with a tapered ground electrode which minimizes electrical quenching effect. The longer insulator nose prevents fouling, the corrugated ribs on the insulator prevent flashover and a triple gasket seal eliminates combustion gas leakage.

If the engine is running dangerously lean the whole plug tip will be grey or white. If the temperature is over 850-degrees, pre-ignition may occur. Engine power will be reduced and you risk piston damage.

Is it related to the temp the spark plug can endure or the length of the spark or what? Install each spark plug by hand until you have wound the thread a couple of turns. If you don't notice a difference using your five senses - then probably only a gas analyzer will show the improvement. If that is the case, and you don't care how long it is between your plug replacement intervals, then don't bother spending the extra money. Allows the use of an extremely small diameter electrode (0.6mm) without compromising the spark plug’s service life Err kind of agree, as I was told, there are two parts to the electrode, one which is made from steel. Steel conducts electricity and is magnetic but is it gets too red hot it becomes austenitic, doesn’t like to conduct electricity and becomes nonmagnetic so becomes more an insulator. This is safety for your engine because it will promote a miss and cool the motor down.
