I love a story which features a cantankerous character and eighty-year-old Edgar was the perfect complement to Lou’s sweet demeanour. So when cantankerous 80 year old Edgar offers to provide a place for her to live while she cares for him, as well as promising to leave her a substantial inheritance, she feels guilty despite his lack of family and friends, but can't really refuse.

Hierdoor blijft het verhaal afwisselend, wordt het geen moment saai en worden de verschillende perspectieven mooi met elkaar verbonden, al had ik over enkele elementen en achtergronden graag nog uitgebreider willen lezen. We have the warmth and depth of emotion that we are accustomed to in Jill’s novels but there is also a modern spark to this storyline too. We lezen het verhaal vooral vanuit Lou, maar we krijgen ook de hersenspinsels van andere personages mee. It did have me in tears at certain parts of the book, but there was still plenty of fun, love and laughter throughout.Jill Mansell is a incredibly talented author who has delivered flawless books over and over again and her latest novel Promise Me is no exception. Edgar gets in touch with a lost love and hopes for happy endings all round seem on the horizon and Lou’s own romantic life may also be set to change or will history repeat itself…? However, needs must and when he makes an offer that she can’t refuse, she decides to give it a go and becomes Edgar’s live-in carer. My review is based on my experience of the book and any thoughts expressed here are solely mine alone.
