About this deal

When I tested the shoe in the lab freezer I got an increase in stiffness of 36.2% at 42.5N, which is 5% above average. For me, this is a slight concern. While I don’t expect anyone to run at -20°C, I would also like to see that number at around 21% to make the shoe feel the same during any run. The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 has all the grip you’d need Puma Nitro series of running shoes continue to make strides in the endurance running world. Puma is relentless in putting its might behind Nitro, be it introducing new shoes such as women-specific RunXX Nitro, short distance racers Fast FWD, Fast R Nitro, or lining up the upgrades for the original Nitro series.

The PUMAGRIP outsole has been tweaked, so it covers more 'strategically significant' areas, so to speak. Whereas in the first iteration of the shoes, the outsole was kind of slapped on the front section of the shoes, now, it focuses on the lateral and medial sides, where runners wear down the sole the fastest. The heel area is more or less unchanged from an outsole point of view. Performance: A- (Great at daily paces and can handle a good variety of terrain. I do get a small speed bump feeling at loading response with the transition moving from rearfoot into midfoot. ) I have run more than 140kms so far. I have used it for all kinds of runs - easy, speed work, tempo, and long runs. Overall: B+/A- ( A solid daily trainer for normal and longer mileage. Lighter weight that feels especially good with the NITRO foam underfoot)

Reliable Cushioning Thanks to Nitro Foam

All applicable customs and import duties and any other charges are the responsibility of the customer. Fit: A- (The upper is a lightweight yet still pretty plush mesh that fits well throughout while still being comfortable. The length may be a tad long. ) Stability: A- [Stable Neutral] ( Excellent stability for a neutral shoe thanks to EVA midsole elevations and guidance line in forefoot)

The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 has a nice flex at room temperature, with a score of 31.2N the Velocity Nitro 2 is a little stiffer than an average recovery run shoe. This will inhibit speed and probably won’t change in any future iterations. I’m very happy to lose some speed in return for the sheer amount that this shoe can take on. Matt: The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 is a lighter weight daily trainer with a comfortable fit, stable ride for a neutral shoe and plenty of NITRO cushioning for longer mileage. The addition of a gentle heel bevel and toe spring add efficiency to the ride, while the NITRO foam provides pleasant, mildly bouncy cushioning underfoot. A redesigned upper provides structure in the rearfoot and adaptability upfront, allowing it to work for a moderate variety of foot types. The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 is a solid shoe with enough cushioning for long runs, daily runs and light enough for some uptempo work. The shoes are especially well-suited for low-light conditions as they feature reflective strips in multiple areas. Wearing the Velocity Nitro 2 won't turn your legs into two shining beacons, but motorists will certainly be able to better notice you when you're out and about early morning. I have used the shoe for short and tempo intervals. It is definitely not great at speed, and don’t expect a bounce like one. But it works reasonably well as a speed trainer, given its primary job is a daily trainer. The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 is lighter, with men’s shoes weighing 8.8 ounces (249 g). The women’s shoe weighs 7.3 ounces (207 g). The drop is 10 mm (23.5 mm forefoot, 33.5 mm heel). Testers report that the Nitro 2 feels more buoyant on foot than its actual weight suggests.I am recovering from an irritated posterior tibialis, so am pronating more and am more sensitive to excessive medial motion. I was surprised that the Velocity Nitro 2 actually ended up being stable enough for me to not only get daily training miles in but also for a 17 mile long run.

One of the essentials I look for in a running shoe is its consistency in performance. And that consistency is largely determined by the shoe's flexibility. DPT/Footwear Science: A-/B+ ( Great use of midsole sculpting for subtle guidance. Guide line through forefoot is another method for subtle guidance in the forefoot. Heel bevel should be a bit more lateral give that heel strikers land at the posterior lateral heel)An updated dual density foam midsole in the Nitro 2 delivers a softer landing than the original version, yet it retains the lively feel and comfort of the Velocity Nitro. The outsole on the Velocity Nitro 2 features PUMAGRIP rubber, and the modified lug pattern delivers excellent traction on a variety of surfaces. The Puma Velocity Nitro 2 is an excellent daily trainer for slower runs that focuses on comfort and visibility and offers all its great features for an affordable price. The shoe definitely is at its best when you run in at easy to moderate paces. The softness and breathability just make it easy to get things going. This is the reason why it is my go-to shoe for daily training. I often include short-speed work (such as strides) in my daily runs. Velocity Nitro 2, does an equally good job when you speed up. It does have enough bounce and is light enough to support speed work. Personal: B+/ A- ( A shoe I did not expect to like but has grown a great deal on me. I still wish there was a bit more lateral heel bevel however.)
