I am not talking about a childish or girlish rose , I am talking about a serious, adult, elegant rose that only gives you the permission to acknowledge it's a rose when you really pay attention to it. Very peculiar and unmistakable scent — impossible to mistake it for another perfume, except for Aqua Fahrenheit, maybe. I read a lot of people are dissapointed, beacuse they thought that tis scent would be oriental, but why is that? I must say that, like any perfume that is unique and artistic in a way (yes, because it is a true work of art), Alaïa is a perfume that stirs up "hate it or love it" reactions among those who have tried it - I am one of those who actually LOVES it, no wonder I bought myself a 100ml bottle. This fragrance has started my journey into niche and layering perfumes to find equally interesting, complex fragrances.

So why does it smell like a musty old book that has been sitting covered in dust for years when i spray it on me? There’s one thing I really wanted to understand when I blind bought this, and that’s “what is mountain air”?

Violet (wet concrete at first), Citrusy zing (mountain air), soft subtle Leather (not the stomach upsetting harsh kind), Rose and Musk round it off. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. Indeed, perhaps the only exceptional thing about Alaïa is how well it performs in spite of its overall breezy composition; I think the musk is what pulls everything together, and it's certainly what lasts longest and dominates the drydown.

Then the leather note becomes deeper, more rounded and I get a wet, dewy, but still powdery violet and other flowers. It smells identical to the sol de janeiro 71 body spray but it lasts 100 times longer and just has something more to it. I didn't know if I'd like it, and honestly I thought I would but I knew there was a chance I wouldn't (given the tricky relationship I have with musk).The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings.

and i perceive it not dark or mysteroius at all - au contraire - on me it is very bright, dewy floral beauty, very versatile, and cheerful. In spite of this, it almost strays into the unisex territory, maybe because the projection is so evasive. For this project, Azzedine Alaïa meticulously and personally controlled every detail, taking advice from a team of experts in pursuit of excellence.

The opening was again a bit unusual, but this time I could understand it and kind of appreciate - a fine leather note mixed with musk and some freshness (that magical mountain air I was laughing at maybe? Narcotic aroma; intense and intoxicating with some vibe of detached airiness about it that reminds me of Serge Lutens' L'orpheline.

The items arrived has described however I just wished they we packed better since the parfum bottles had a small issue with the atomizers. Musk also is not disturbing, but the aftermath is - sensual, delicate perfume for strong personality, maybe good one for office as over some time on the skin it starts to radiate sort of unisex/masculine notes.In terms of notes, I find a juicy berry note, very abstract florals and a musky, leathery base, but the most interesting note is the mineral one - it really does smell like cold water on hot stone. Going to put this on, go out to a cabaret, drink and listen to a chanteuse sing of broken hearts and old lost love.
