DON'T MISS THE CAPTIVATING NEW BOOK FROM SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JANE CORRY----------------------------' Deftly peeling back layers of family secrets, Coming to Find You is a compelling read' Shari Lapena, author of Not a Happy Family'A must-read thriller' B. I’ve been a long-time fan of Jane Corry’s books, but I fell behind somewhat so it’s been a while since I read one of her books. Honestly there’s not much I can say with the plot because the main plot ended quicker than the second plot. The dual timeline was amazing in telling the story of how Tall Chimneys was not only for paying guests but for Evacuees during the war.

After Nancy’s stepbrother murders her mother and his father, Nancy flees to Tall Chimneys, an old boarding house on the Devon coast that belonged to her grandmother. The author has done an excellent job of weaving together the past and present, making the story come alive with vivid details and captivating characters. However, that being said, I enjoyed the longest ending ever and the merging (kinda) of the two timelines. It is a tightly written book where words are not wasted and you are left anxiously waiting to find out what happens next. The house hides a lot of history, Nancy finds writing in the wardrobe on the top floor Maisie was here. Her writing is beautiful as she manages to create great drama but also emotional attachment to the characters in this book. Her friendship with Adeline, her unhappy marriage and the compassion she showed not only to the two young evacuee girls, Maisie and Shirley, but others too despite her own suffering, made her a sympathetic and engaging character.

The description of this book fails to mention that there is an entire second timeline/story in this novel, set in WWII. I’ve read 5 out of 7 books by this author which were My Husband’s Wife (‘16 - Read ‘21 - 4 Stars), Dead Ex ('18 - Read '20 - 4 Stars), I Made A Mistake ('20 - 4.

But the house has secrets, too, and as Nancy tries to escape the present, the past catches up with her. But this book suffers from that dual POV trope of using chapter cliffhangers but then switching to the other POV. However, it looks as if at ‘Tall Trees’, it is not so much the media but the past trying to find Nancy.

It is a mystery and eventually the two time periods are connected but I would recommend this more for my historical fiction lovers rather than twisty thriller lovers. I've enjoyed some of Jane Corry's previous books, but unfortunately, despite some strong points, this one didn't really hit the spot for me. However, I have been pleasantly surprised by how gripping and entertaining they are, and have now read every single one.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.
