The speaker is loud enough for regular use as someone with less than stellar hearing, i can hear everything perfectly fine even with a small amount of noise, like say the sound of frying something in a pan in the kitchen, but with too much wind or traffic noise it can be difficult to hear. I wish it's maximum volume was a little higher, but they probably don't want people damaging their hearing with it anyways. When connected to two phones, sometimes the "media" connection won't fully engage, so I can't play music from it. The second phone. First phone works perfectly and plays music all day long. This is really a minor thing. Connects with either or both phones consistently. Again, this is really important to me. The runner up headset (not the Plantronics) I was trying would connect flawlessly with the first phone, but was iffy about connecting with "Phone 2". The Plantronics NEVER had that problem. To the point where I bought TWO MORE Explorer 50s to test that theory (May 2018) - and THEY always connect, too. So yeah, this works better than most of the other units I've tried, which is why this one wins.
