About this deal

But on initial inspection I am pleased with the camera received (only opened box as yet and not tested). A problem is that the dials move too easily, so it is possible to uncalibrate it without knowing you have.

Actually, you can get them for slightly over 10€, but I paid 20€ to get one that included a hotshoe to picatinny rail adapter so I can actually mount it on my camera. The trick for consistent alignment is to press the EE-1 into one corner of the hot shoe, align it there, and remount the same way. When using mine with the camera in portrait orientation I've sometimes been able to see the dot with one eye and the focus point on the camera screen with the other but I haven't really played around with it.

That’s why we’ll make it in our best interest to offer you the very best option should you find them cheaper. The advantage of using the EE-1 when shooting is that you can keep your camera further away from your eyes and keep track of what is going on around your subject. Most red dot sights cannot even be zeroed/aligned at very short distances because they don't have the adjustment range. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The OM-1's subject recognition is not perfect and sometimes fails, but using the dot sight isn't the reason.

But if you don't need one, that's just fine - it's not for everyone obviously (nice shot above BTW). If you set your sight up for say 20 metres, when the subject is much closer just mentally allow for it by aiming the red dot just above the subject. I make/sell a hotshoe sight rail that allows you to use any red dot sight of your choosing; and there are others as well. Just head over to our dedicated Sell or Part Exchange page, fill out the details, and we'll get back to you with an offer for your old gear.

Nikon Z9 | Nikon Z8 | Nikon Z7 II | Nikon Z30 | Nikkor Z 24-70 F4S | Nikkor Z 14-30 F4 S | Nikkor Z 24-120 F4 S | Nikkor Z 100-400 F4. Depends on focal lengths too of course: At 100mm you could really have it shoot where-ever that's somewhat center, but at 300mm you'll want it to be fairly accurate especially if your subject fills your frame. If the bird is bigger in the frame, there are a flock of them or it's slower moving subject, then like you I tend to just use the viewfinder as usual. However, setting it up while holding the camera would more uncomfortable because you can’t maintain a precise composition and work with the dials at the same time (especially with a long lens). If you use a system camera, then you can sometimes move your eye to the screen on the back of the camera, so that you are certain that it’s working properly. this is how I captured this shot, taken among a series of 5 photos where only 1 was out of focus: it is a huge improvement!
