About this deal

Nordes is a very contemporary gin that pushes the boundaries of traditional gin but in a very good way - unique, and interesting. With Nordés, what you get on the nose is pretty much the taste – fresh and fruity with flavours of peach and strong floral notes. On its own, it’s delicious served up over ice and gently sipped, but if you’re insistent on mixing, it’s lovely with tonic, blended up in to a variety of summery cocktails, and even served up with a fresh edible flower in the chicest of martinis. I can not describe the aroma or the flavour, (although I could detect a hint of albarino) its Odd, weird, strange in a fabulous way, its an enigma in a glass! Nordés has a truly unique character as far as premium gins go, made possible by ingredients which grow wild in Galicia and capture the essence of the Atlantic.

This Nordes Atlantic Galician Gin is a Spanish Gin with an unusual production which uses an Albarino-Grape based spirit as opposed to the normal Grain based Spirit!

To taste, the flavour journey isn’t much of a journey at all – more a big hit on the taste buds that continues through the palate and finish.

Given the intensity of the flavours, you can probably afford to make this a longer drink than usual, with three or four parts tonic to gin. At first I thought maybe this was floral enough to be considered a floral gin, but the more I drank it the more I became convinced that this isn’t a floral gin, despite the handful of floral notes that were there. Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product. To that they added 6 local botanicals, lemon verbena, bay leaf, mint, sage, eucalyptus, and Glasswort (a plant that grows along the seashore and in marshes and is also known as “pickle weed”). A white wine grape, the Albarino (aka the Cainho Branco), which grows plentifully in Galicia, and is traditionally used to make brandy.

The bottle design is inspired by traditional ceramics of Sargadelos which are also made in Galicia and are synonymous with utilising singular designs and white and blue colours. I was introduced to this gin in Spain as part of a gin tonica, which is a very Spanish take on the gin and tonic - with fruit, both dried and fresh, herbs, and more added. A rather intriguing Spanish gin made with an Albariño-grape-based spirit, rather than your more commonly seen grain-based spirit, along with 12 botanicals including lemon peels, hibiscus, liquorice and eucalyptus.
