About this deal

This inspirational true story, with an underlying message about loving and caring for animals, will show young readers everywhere that you can find friendship in the most unlikely places. I have been following Dean and Nala since the pandemic and enjoy his videos and short summaries of daily life.

If you haven't been following what is really a very minor news story that's uplifting and cute, this book will not be interesting to you. Scampering along the road was “a scrappy wee thing” that fitted into the palm of his hand, with “sharply pointing ears, spindly legs and a thick tail”. Through her story we share about loving and caring for animals, our beautiful wee book will show young readers everywhere that you can find friendship in the most unlikely places. In Nala’s World, we worked with Frann to bring our story to life in an engaging way to spark the imagination and passion of young minds. When Dean Nicholson found an abandoned kitten by the side of the road one day, he hadn’t bargained on the lessons he’d learn from his unlikely companion, Nala.

Dean and Nala become an adventurous, inseparable pair, meeting and befriending people who they meet along their journey.

The bond the two pair is so precious and it is inspiring how good the people were that he encountered offering him a place to stay, food, etc. Dean also supports many worldwide causes that do good for the world, most notably abandoned and abused animals and the environment. Matka jatkuu kisulin kanssa ja somejulkisuuden myötä rupeaa tukemaan eläinyhdistyksiä matkansa varrelta.

He is a hard worker who is good at budgeting and that enables him to make this trip, and he does acknowledge is insane level of privilege after wandering into a Syrian refugee camp, so this is coming off a lot meaner than it should, but man, the whole world is shut down because of a pandemic where people have lost their jobs and can't leave their homes and haven't seen their families in months and so his failure to get a visa for Nala to go to some country because of animal control just doesn't seem like a major deal to me. Dean's book for adults, Nala's World, spent two weeks on the Sunday Times' bestseller list and has been translated into twenty-five languages. Both curious, independent, resilient and adventurous, they were a perfect match – and so together, they set off to travel around the world. I am interested enough to wonder what he's doing now (his story ends with him marooned on a generous follower's farm in Austria as COVID hit), and the book really highlighted how the internet has made it possible to make connections in the most unlikely of places. You will recognise a lot of yourself in him if you have a cat that is your most important "person" in the world.

From then on it was set: Nala and Dean set out to travel the world together, learning about each other and the world we live in along the way - from discovering the problem with plastic pollution and meeting refugees to finding lots of other animals in need of help. She has previously been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal and shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize. When I first had the idea to publish the story of how Nala and I met, a children’s book was the way I wanted to go.

If you are a cat person, or an animal person, or just a person who has a pulse, I definitely recommend this book. Uplifting, inspirational, heartwarming, and just about every other adjective you can think of that expresses a superlative, this beautiful book is ultimately an extraordinary love story.
