About this deal

When I checked this book out at the library, my favorite librarian looked at me funny and said "This is not a you book". We need to part ways now though, at 35%, but don't worry, I'll compile here every amazing moment we shared together.

Jase and Samantha’s relationship was adorable, snarky, and well done and I’m excited to find another great author. The only aspect that I felt should have been explored much more was Samantha’s unease over her mother’s Republican politics. It's quite clearly about a romance between two neighbours but the twist I did not see coming until it happened and then without wanting to give anything away, I wondered how the story could end in a good way with there not being many pages left but it did. Also I loved how he was there for his siblings, for his parents, and I loved how he kept fighting for his dreams (figuratively speaking) even though there were such slim chances for them to come true. This is a friendship problem with Nan – one which, in my opinion, was original, different, and really interesting. For me, I did think she fell quite flat as a main character because there just wasn’t something in her that made me relate or understand her better. Samantha is rich and beautiful, and viewed as the girl who has it all, yet her life isn't as perfect as it seems.

Samantha is the daughter of the Connecticut Senator and has lived next door the large Garrett family for many years. Okay, I will admit I loved, loved, loved the beginning of the book and pretty much to the half way mark. On one side there is Samantha's family which is small, organized, and well managed, then there is Jase's family which is large, chaotic, and sometimes out-of-control. Then Samantha still has to deal with the emptiness that accompanies her father walked out on the family, although it was before she was born.Usually, authors never give too much emphasis to the best friend, but Nan was given a lot of importance in this story, which I liked – especially because a friend’s problems, their life, and their struggles impact your life as well. As a family with eight children, Grace distanced herself and her daughters from them due to her belief that they are chaotic and irresponsible people. We get to see whether Samantha and Jase's relationship can withstand the pressure as their lives come crashing down, affecting not only their own relationship, but the strong bonds between family and friends, too. There have been plenty of books that I have read where the characters lack chemistry, but you can feel the chemistry between them and it added even more enjoyment to the book!

A story that will make you dream and believe that everything is possible in this world if you find your Jase. For Samantha, watching them is like dreaming--until one day Jase climbs up to her window, and the Garrett's finally materialize. Sam was a very boring character, she was too good, and didn't do anything exciting like i think every girl her age should do. In some ways, this novel reminded me of Cheaper by the Dozen – two loving parents with a large family of children do their best to make it work. Title: The Declaration Author: Gemma Malley Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian Publication: October 2nd 2007, Bloomsbury Pages: 304 pages Source: Library book Anna Covey is a ‘Surplus’.Although she's spent years watching them, Samantha has never interacted with the Garretts because she doesn't want to disobey her mother. Especially as they are such a close family, I think it would've made it more realistic if Jase wasn't as nonchalant about what his sisters were doing etc. Actually, the real saving grace of the book were the secondary characters – Tim, George, Alice: even Nan! I love reading about books with big families and the diverse personalities that each member of the family obtains. Samantha Reed is a 17-year-old American teenager living in the fictional town of Stony Bay, Connecticut.

I hated Sam's mom and her moms young boyfriend, Clay that is helping her on her campaign on becoming a senator. Even though at times I was irritated with the parents for having baby after baby, leaving the older ones to pick up the slack. If Fitzpatrick's future heroines turn out to be even a tenth as good as Sam was, I'm in for a real treat. The family who moved in ten years ago, but whom Samantha still hasn't been able to talk to, due to her mom's disapproval of the Garret's raucous behavior.
