Since all creatures can kill you in two hits, even combat against minor enemies becomes a deadly danger (I'm playing on hard). You can have one other NPC character to fight along side you, and while the AI is not perfect, it seems to be pretty decent and they actually help you turn the tide of battle in your favor.
