About this deal

In 1967, he played spoof super-hero Captain Fantastic, among other roles, in the children's comedy series Do Not Adjust Your Set ( Rediffusion London/ ITV) with Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Denise Coffey, and Michael Palin. He is assisted by his brother Rodney (played by Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Grandad (played by Lennard Pearce) and, in later episodes, Uncle Albert (played by Buster Merryfield).

Jason also appeared with Barker in various disguises in The Two Ronnies, including providing the "raspberry" sound effect for The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town. He has always been a very private man so was intrigued to read about his early life and really wanted to find out more about Only fools and horses, one of my all time favourite shows. As the front-woman of Blondie, she and the band forged a new sound that brought together the worlds of rock, punk, disco, reggae and hip-hop to create some of the most beloved pop songs of all time. Have always loved this man, grew up with him in my house and have continued to watch him as an adult.David Jason has managed to illustrate that missing out the autobiographical genre from my reading means I’m missing out on memory, entertainment and enjoyment. His love for his family is clear, and it's nice to see how that developed with his girlfriend Myfanwy Talog and wife Gill Hinchcliffe. and regales the reader with stories of treading the boards, courting and his day job as an electrician. Smiley and his people are facing a remarkable challenge: a mole - a soviet double agent - who has burrowed his way in and up to the highest level of British Intelligence.

All in all, this book was a fantastic read and couldn’t have come at a better time – to hear David talk about Roger Lloyd Pack so warmly goes to prove I was right all along – there is no bigger gentleman than Sir David Jason. As is the case with most books of this type we go through childhood (born in 1940 so his main memories begin just after the war) and on to how they ended up becoming famous. For me the middle part of the book was a bit dry and I guess not knowing all the old actors and actresses of the 60's and 70's it was not my favorite book.Upon receiving the knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace on 1 December 2005, he said he was "humbled" by the "fantastic tribute". For us, seeing him as Sir David, with his many BAFTA awards, it might be difficult to imagine that there was a time before Only Fools And Horses. The love he has for his work and family shines out from the pages and what an incredible success he has made by working hard.

In 1979, he appeared as Buttons in the pantomime Cinderella at Newcastle's Theatre Royal, starring Leah Bell and Bobby Thompson, produced by Michael Grayson and directed by John Blackmore. Jason appeared in the BBC comedy series Hugh and I in 1967, which starred Hugh Lloyd and Terry Scott as two friends who lived together in South London. I just can't shed the feeling I'd be equally interested in hearing all the details about his developing career because, well, it's just super interested and almost unbelievable. From Open All Hours to The Darling Buds of May to his starring roles as Detective Inspector Frost in A Touch of Frost and, of course, Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. Then I was lucky enough to watch all of the Touch of Frost on Netflix, which I now own them as well.Obviously, this book wouldn’t be able to get away without including the phenomenon that is Only Fools And Horses. In 1968, Jason was initially cast in the role of Lance Corporal Jones in the Jimmy Perry and David Croft BBC comedy Dad's Army. This book really details David Jason's career form the rely days right up until his acting in the BBC drama series, Frost.

Not only is this an interesting read, it is written as though Jason himself were sat with you, remembering his past and telling the best and funniest of his tales. The book almost feels like a friendly visit with David Jason, siping a beverage of choice and exchanging annocdites. While at school him and a mate joined a dramatic club as a way to meet girls, and without any formal training he was able to start making his living as an actor in his twenties. The stories of making A Touch Of Frost are interesting, who knew that the cast played pranks on one another during location shoots? He tells of his early television work in the 1960s with Do Not Adjust Your Set, how he was bypassed for Corporal Jones in Dad's Army and Frank Spencer in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, and how he eventually landed the roles for which he is best-known.Autobiographies can have a tendency to become warts and all tell all slaggng off off other actors so it's nice to read many nice things said about Jason's fellow professionals. In 1981, Jason was cast as Del Boy Trotter in the BBC situation comedy Only Fools and Horses, created by John Sullivan.
