About this deal

Well I figured I'd give their "training" shoes a go and they have completely fallen apart in less than 3 months of using them ONLY AT THE GYM. Refunds can only be processed to the same funding source (credit card/bank account/PayPal account/etc.

Their fairly low stack height helps them walk a really good line between these two performance metrics. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The only concern I have with this model and running is that if you train outdoors and you’re running through mud or wet surfaces, then be very conscious of this shoe’s midsole and outsole durability. On turf and tracks, the durability will be fine in this shoe, but I’d suggest limiting their exposure to concrete and asphalt due to these surfaces tearing up the Innerflex tech. However, if you’re not wedded to zero drop and don’t mind a narrower toe box, then there could be some preferable options to the Solstice XT. I trust Altra will get the adhesive issue fixed, and in the meantime, I got some shoe glue to fix the current pair. it’s the ultimate cross-trainer, built for in-the-gym weightlifting and lateral moves, but ready to get out on the road. Again, we find this to improve the feel of the shoe, but it starts to become less of an ideal utilitarianism and more of a liability once you start putting in serious miles — anything over an hour.

The standard road version of the Solstice has won awards in the past with its low weight, great flexibility, and natural feel. They fit my narrow, low arched, wider forefoot type feet like a glove and man, they are super comfortable. Take that along with the fact that the toebox is a big, open platform, and you get a good shoe for midfoot or forefoot landing and toe-off. It's the ultimate cross-trainer, built for in-the-gym weightlifting and lateral moves, but ready to get out on the road. The firmer caged upper offers added support for lateral movements while the toe reinforcement adds toe protection and the athletic runner outsole brings durability inside and out.

The only caveat is that the external support structure, the cage, can rub a bit if it's tied too tight at the far end near the forefoot. It comes with plastic midfoot overlays and a heel collar for extra support during lateral movements, jumping, and rapid acceleration or deceleration. FOOTSHAPE™: Our signature FootShape™ comfort gives your feet more space to sit naturally and is designed to address biological differences in men's and women's feet. If you prefer to combine sprints and short runs with your gym days and cross-training, the Solstice XT is the shoe for you.To keep your foot locked-in, you need to tighten the laces — they pull on the cage, producing the potential to rub against the top of your foot and behind the ball of your big toe.
