While hard to top the last couple of volumes it still builds up some really interesting ideas and moments.

My one knock on it is that I feel like sometimes Miura just takes everything 1 step farther than it needs to go.

Casca is more fierce than most male soldiers on the battlefield and she has an attitude to match, so when we see her more feminine and loving side it makes her complex journey of self-realization all the more powerful.The relationship between Guts and Jill shows us that Guts is still in touch with his human side after the atrocities of the Black Swordsman arc may have convinced us otherwise. After Isidro's group eliminate the last of Mozgus's disciples, the inquisitor overpowering him while the flames keeping the corpses at bay die out, Guts uses his miniature bombs to blow apart the unprotected chink in the inquistitor's armored body to kill him. While in a king’s employ, the attraction between the king’s daughter and Griffith and the growing favor of the king towards the Hawk leader raises the hackles of the king’s jealous son, who plots to have Griffith summarily assassinated.
