Five years later, Ben still thinks about the amazing woman he met in London and questions how it managed to go so wrong between them. The only clue is the bee pendant she’s wearing around her neck, the very same one Ben bought Lili on that hot summers day. Once I started the book, I immediately realised that the cover was hiding something deeper and definitely sadder than I expected beneath. Yes it does have it’s moments of pure, heart warming love between characters, but it also has some difficult to read chapters and characters that you will be happy to close the book on and never speak of again.Lili wakes up on a bench in the middle of a town she has never been to and doesn't know how she got there. Emotional abuse is slowly revealed to the reader with the alternating chapters in the past with fiancé, Justin. I did, however, utter some foul curse words that shall not be repeated here lest I find myself banned from GR for vulgarity. This narrative follows Alice as she attempts to retrace her steps: find her memories to discover what exactly was happening in her life and what made her travel all the way to Scotland. Ben, meanwhile, is dealing with his own issues and yet is so kind and caring, and so wonderful in how he tries to help Alice.

You may want to read author’s content warning at the beginning since this is quite the emotional story that takes on heavy issues. This isn’t just a normal love story, it is also Lili’s story of trying to get her memory back, finding out who she was and who she is now. During her career, she's won numerous awards, including a Romantic Novel Award in 2018, and chalked up a no. I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and HarperCollins and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased. When I got to the end I was very satisfied, the characters are well developed and although they don't always make the best choices, the writing is so good that the reader can understand how things unfolded the way they did.

I loved how well the timelines seamlessly flowed together and added an extra note of suspense to the story. It was frustrating and heartbreaking to read that Lili just could not see that how he was treating her was wrong and she continued to cater to him and go along with his unreasonable requests.
