Children will develop comprehension of what they are reading by learning about and practicing reading appropriate parts of the text with expression. We encourage reading for pleasure through children having a choice of challenging and enriching texts as well as building in time for children to read independently and as part of a whole class. As reading and spelling are reversible processes, and because we teach spelling alongside reading, children will learn to spell words with these suffixes too.
