About this deal

I believe the latter to be the more likely, and that simple gesture adds a greater depth to his personality. For more about Jaws 4K and the Jaws 4K Blu-ray release, see Jaws 4K Blu-ray Review published by Jeffrey Kauffman on October 9, 2023 where this Blu-ray release scored 4.

Diving into the bonus features, there's a quick 8-minute featurette about the restoration project (seen below) which revealed why these issues were present. This is not to imply that 'Jaws' doesn't offer any interesting filmmaking techniques or display any creative methods which impress on the same level of caliber and skill. The first half is almost a summation of the lengthier doc, going over the many issues that occurred, and it again features interviews with members of the cast and crew that still manage to offer some new insights (Spielberg admits that if he made the movie now, he would probably use CGI for the shark, show too much of the shark in the process, and would more than likely ruin the film. Williams's minimalist score benefits from this immensely, exhibiting clean differentiation between the few instruments used in his orchestration.Forget Jaws, I avoided any movie with sharks in, was wary of movies set on the ocean, and it was only the fact that my first DVD player came with a free copy of Deep Blue Sea that made me give shark movies another chance. It does mean that shadows during these scenes are extremely prominent and doesn't feature a hell of a lot of detail really. From the Set: An insider’s look at life on the set of JAWS, featuring an interview with Steven Spielberg. What’s especially nice, though, is that the sound quality between the many layers of the track sound to be the same in terms of quality. It discusses the hardships faced during production, and consists of snippets of interviews from cast and crew.

So fear not, Jaws on Blu-ray looks great, despite some unfortunately unfixable issues born from the original negative. There’s also other tracks, like many MGM ones, where the surrounds and extra effort overpower the dialogue. Jaws' marks a major and significantly momentous point in the history of cinema and filmmaking, whether as a general movie-going experience or as an interest for academic study. Directed by Academy Award® winner° Steven Spielberg, Jaws set the standard for edge-of-your-seat suspense, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon and forever changing the movie industry. There is a great deal to learn from the doc about the pre, during and post-production challenges while enjoying never-before-seen videos of real-life sharks, hearing stories about working on the set and tons of BTS footage throughout. But more than 35 years later it's still hard to fathom how it all came together and how a classic was born from such terrible, wicked conditions.

From the Set (SD, 9 min) — Originally produced and aired in 1974, this is a British news featurette hosted by Iain Johnstone that functions pretty much like a promotional piece with an interview of Spielberg and BTS footage. The color palette receives a generous boost without feeling artificial, especially in the bold primaries. Although back speakers are used a bit more than should be allowed, considering the original recording, this lossless mix doesn't lose focus and remains a front-heavy presentation. And if you haven't seen the film yet, you really haven't experienced classic popcorn cinema at its very finest. It's impossible to know what made the shark swim into this type of water, but this is a 4 minute piece that looks at that event, and argues the pros and cons about public perception of sharks.Running around 122-minutes, the documentary gathers together various members of the cast and crew to talk about the film, which had a difficult production history, from finding the right people to make the film, to shooting on water, and then the fact the mechanical shark just would not work. There are still the rich blue's and golden sands you'll remember in the Amity scenes, but they now have a more controlled and natural feel to them. There’s also a decent archive gallery presenting storyboards, production photos, various marketing materials, and other items from around the world. It’s not until the end, when the shark tries to break through the boat, where I felt the track goes a little overboard with all sorts of objects crashing about, the track’s volume levels reaching incredibly high levels, and so on. track while offering some clear if subtle emanations of mostly ambient environmental effects from the Atmos speakers.
