About this deal

Aly Martinez é a prova que dá pra se escrever uma história rica, envolvente e cheia de reviravoltas em poucas páginas! I’m terrified that, if we keep screaming into the past, the future is going to be nothing but an echo. Our bond might have been forged through tragedy, but our love flourished through patience, genuine respect, and understanding.

I used one of my beloved audible credits, so I’m happy to say that this book was extremely enjoyable. Im going to start this review by stating I am someone who reads constantly, and I read across a broad range of genres. The first pages were explosive and heart-hurting, ripping apart two families in one moment of tragedy. but the characters in this are entirely their own, so it was interesting to see a very similar plot played out with completely different characters.

Rob, yes Rob, Bree’s “DEAD” ex-husband came back from the dead and kidnapped Luna, Eason’s daughter. As it would be to easy for me to spoil such an emotional, emotive, and totally exciting story for the would be reader to experience. Eason and Bree's story is a painful, heart-wrenching experience but their connection is so beautiful to witness. Add to that this could have been a melancholy sob-fest and it was anything but, definitely made for one fabulous read.

If I hadn’t read previous books by this author, I would have thought From the Embers was her debut novel and might have excused this twist! One fateful night not only destroyed two couples, but it cemented a grief that would take a long time to heal from. There was nothing I wouldn’t sacrifice - hopes and dreams included - to be the man Jessica and Luna deserved. What I did not expect was just how easily Bree and Eason fell into friendship and support, growing in characters and then falling for each other.Right from the beginning I could tell Eason would do anything for his family and friends but since life had thrown some bumps his way that prevented him truly giving everything, he promised Jessica his wife one thing was for sure, that he kept trying! Not only was the cover gorgeous, seriously look at that cover, but the tropes at play sounded *chef's kiss* amazing. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a glass of wine by her side.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC before this released, but that meant that I went in completely blind – the blurb was super vague, no one else had reviewed it yet, and I’d only read lighter books by Martinez in the past. if the twist in regretting you felt unsatisfying, i think you might prefer the execution of that same twist in this book. Which I understand is realistic of a parent, but as a reader, not really a driving force to make you really want to continue a book if I’m being honest with you. I loved everything and totally grieved with both Eason and Bree, for their loss and the devastating truths that were uncovered. The two of us could sit outside for hours, talking about nothing, and it filled the massive hole in my chest with new life.Everything changes one tragic night and believe me, when it happened I was like WT actual F and I went back to re-read it 3 times to be sure I hadn’t misread anything. They have to reluctantly work together to keep their makeshift family healthy and take care of the small children and each other even though they weren't super close before. It’s important to mention that as Bree and Eason finally find themselves starting to heal from the fire and Rob and Jessica’s deaths. This could have been a beautiful story about 2 people surviving intense trauma and finding happiness again.

There were no big surprises, and sometimes a predictable storyline does bother me, but it didn’t this time. The build in intimacy was incredible, feeling rich and fully developed – even in a book that isn’t particularly long. Looking back, there are countless threads that are pulled together by that moment, but it might’ve been a step too far. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. The blurb gives us a glimpse but it does not prepare us for all the amazing and surprising things that happen in the story. So, I was wondering if I should keep reading or not, but then I remembered the high average rating and kept reading, waiting for the captivating pick up. Their relationship, though strained in the beginning, becomes over time something precious that heals and binds them together.
