A brand new Elmer mini picture book about the joy of sharing stories – exclusive for World Book Day 2024! When she leaves, Elmer realises he can't get the tune out of his head either – and as he crosses the jungle he can see the infectious tune spreading to every animal Rose has met!His first story is also featured and animated in Anytime Tales, a storytelling animated programme narrating five of David McKee and Tony Ross' stories.

A good snowball fight at the top warms them all up, but the elephants agree that compared with the freezing mountain top, their home is not really that cold at all. I was a painter as well and my paintings were squared up, a bit Paul Klee-ish, and one day I mixed the two," he says. Aided and abetted by his ventriloquist cousin, Wilbur, Elmer pretends to be blown away on the windiest day.Elmer was first published by Dobson Books in 1968, and re-issued with re-drawn illustrations in a slightly shortened version by Andersen Press in 1989.

At the first hint of a chill in the air, Elmer's friends start complaining about the cold, so Elmer decides to show them what cold weather is really like. From my own memories of the story from when I was little it has always held a strong yet familiar moral message. So he thinks up a marvellous joke he can play on the other elephants in the night, when they're asleep. It would also be a useful resource to use with children in the reception and year 1 ages ranges as it offers a message of accepting others, understanding that everyone is different and being happy with who you are.

com to record that I am either a Student, Parent, Nursery Teacher, Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, Literacy Coordinator, Librarian, Bookseller, Publisher or Other so that I can receive worldbookday. Elmer's Little Library - This chunky little library contains four board books - Colours, Numbers, Shapes and Actions. The first book that he sold was of a story he had told at college, “Two Can Toucan”, which is also still in print. Slowly building up a collection of books from my childhood for my daughter and seeing 30th anniversary edition is starting to make me feel slightly old!

The illustrations, are basic but beautiful and Elma’s patchwork colours were the biggest selling point for my daughter when she was younger than one, but then gradually becoming more interested in the other elephants and animals as she grew up. The perfect introduction to the world of Elmer and his colourful elephant friends for the youngest of children. Elmer is a wonderful children's story with the underlying message that it is alright for everyone to be different and that we all possess unique qualities. Children’s adults will be just as entertained as they are, and in my opinion that’s one thing that makes a great children’s picture book. The other elephants immediately realise that the grey elephant must be Elmer and applaud him for his best joke ever.
