For anyone that has read this authors books before, you know that you fall into the storyline hook line and sinker, and that you just keep reading. This was my first Koomson book (even though I've had one of her previous books on my shelf for the last 11 years, it's moved with me 7 times!

This was so close to being a five-star read for me but the only thing that made me drop half a star was because of how the story ended. It must have been difficult to make the transition from 'chick lit' to thriller but the gorgeous Ms Koomson did it with style! Back in the present, Cleo finds herself under police scrutiny as murders start to occur that mimic the way Cleo crafted deaths for her Baking Detective series. This time it took a few pages in before I could say I enjoyed it but my goodness, literally I could not turn the pages quick enough to see what was going to happen. Dangerous, compelling, obsessive love mixes with murder, violence and desperation until the story comes to a head with an unexpected reveal.The characterisation is excellent even those who are unlikeable are well portrayed and you gasp at some of the dialogue with the racist and sexist comments that Cleo is on the receiving end of especially in her career. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to put spoilers in this review but trust me, this is such a unique story – I haven’t read a thriller with something similar, so good! I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nail, troubled many times as certain revelations took place. We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation.

Once I had finished this course, I was going to make sure I had all the tools to start and finish a book. The many time changes and the different points of view made this difficult to follow at times as I found myself flicking back a few pages to check when the previous chapter was set.I was absolutely delighted to learn that Dorothy Koomson, one of my top ten, or quite possibly even my top five favourite authors had written a new novel.
