About this deal

Spooner treats us to relaxing moments with Ian and Barbara as they continue to enjoy peace and quiet outside Rome in a “borrowed” villa, where the TARDIS crew has been for a month! Occasionally, material from the standalone DVD releases of serials is moved to a particular season release if it is deemed a more appropriate fit. The release of Tom Baker - Complete Season Seven was similarly promoted with an omnibus screening of Logopolis, demonstrating the revised visual effects. We get to see episodes 1 and 3 with stunning performances by Bernard Kay (Saladin), Julian Glover (King Richard), and Jean Marsh (Princess Joanna), and the rest of the time, we spend with Ian.

Having finally obtained William Hartnell’s second season on Blu-ray — the first black and white season to get the royal treatment — I found myself once again swept up in “Overview mode”. The release date for Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 2 Blu-ray, which consists of 37 episodes and many special features has not yet been announced.William Hartnell, of course, was the first actor to create the role of the Doctor, and what a wonderful job he did. We think this will be quite a nice piece, even for those who have seen Maureen at one of her convention appearances. Now and Then - A look back at the locations used in 1964 for the recording of this story, comparing and contrasting them to to how they appear nearly 40 years later. A specially shot announcement trailer has debuted on the Doctor Who YouTube channel, written by new series contributor Pete McTighe ( Kerblam! However, the telesnap reconstruction of the two missing episodes is perfectly good at conveying the story.

This release features In Conversation interviews with William Russell and Maureen O'Brien, Flight Through Eternity - an overview of the making of the season, Looking for David - a documentary on the life and career of David Whitaker, Doctor Who and the Collectors - a documentary on 1960s Doctor Who collectables, six episodes of Behind the Sofa, reconstructions of the missing episodes of The Crusade, an audio commentary on The Lion discussing its recovery, an optional enhanced sound mix on The Dalek Invasion of Earth, archive material and features previously available on DVD. The popular series revisits old stories with various notable personalities from Doctor Who’s history.Although the quality track record on six-part adventures can vary —excessive padding is the most persistent criticism— The Dalek Invasion of Earth makes the most of its airtime.
