About this deal

Automating loops, changing BPMs and applying effects in the process, the Merge FX remains active until the DJ presses the central button again to release the effect. There are four slots available to you whether you’re using Rekordbox or Serato DJ, although the latter has slightly less FX available to use. Depending on the effect pattern you’ve chosen, the pitch of the track might start to climb while a snare drum sample is triggered at shorter intervals until you’re ready to drop your next song.

While there’s no jog wheel adjustment, like that offered by the DDJ-800 and DDJ-1000, the tension setting feels just right – especially if you’re upgrading from the smaller DDJ controllers.

Pressing the central button in the centre of the dial activates Merge FX, and twisting the outer dial will start to apply an effect. Scratching and pitch bending feels natural, and the inclusion of on jog display ensures vital information can be seen at a glance. The controller allows the DJ creative freedom when selecting and mixing tracks, and takes away the worry of trying to merge two tracks from different backgrounds together seamlessly.

The VirtualDJ software will also be available to use with the original DDJ-FLX6 (black/white models) by updating the unit to the latest firmware version, and TRAKTOR PRO 3 will be available to use with either model by downloading the mapping files (TSI file). There is added support for Virtual DJ (separate license available) along with standard rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro compatibility. Virtual DJ worked overall without too much hassle, but if you want to use these Merge FX at all, you will need to go into the settings and install a custom extension.Operation couldn’t be simpler – just tap the button in the centre of the Merge FX control and then twist the outer ring to set the intensity. While the unit does have some gimmicks that are confusing to pro DJs, I think hobbyists DJing for fun will enjoy the spontaneous, feature-laden controller. Especially when compared to the much less expensive DDJ-400 controller, lacking the rubber-like paint used by most other Pioneer DJ controllers. The FLX6 also has Dual-Deck Mode, a control that assigns one deck’s controls to both layers simultaneously (e.
