About this deal
Will she wake up to the way she’s being exploited before her protege realises that not everything is copy?
Much like Insatiable, it brushes against some deeper themes, too, including grief and difficult familial relationships. Hilarious and unflinchingly honest, Careering takes a hard look at the often toxic relationship working women have with their dream jobs. A great exploration of relationships with ourselves, our families, our colleagues, our past and futures, our careers, our dreams, our voices. I was hoping for some raw and accurate portrayal of the "dream job" illusion and yet it didn't land. What I especially loved was the insight into how much wealth and privilege can decide who gets that ‘dream job’ or not.
A love story about work, self-worth and modern womanhood, Careering is, quite simply, the funniest novel I’ve read all year. Though entertaining - you can't help but cringe at some of the situations Imogen finds herself in - the novel takes a hard look at the very real challenges women still face in the workplace today.
it explores the burnout that comes with working tirelessly towards your dream job, sometimes up to the point when it ceases to even be a dream anymore, along with the inherent privilege surrounding the notion of a ‘dream job’. Will she wake up to the way she’s being exploited before her protégé realises that not everything is copy?
