They are starting careers, finding a purpose, not earning much though they don’t much care, coming to terms with their diverse backgrounds, wondering about identity and privilege and purpose. It doesn't happen so often to me these days, but one afternoon, I think around the 200-page mark, I realised I'd read for an hour and barely stirred. Of all the books I've read and reviewed, I've never been more on the fence than I have with this one. If you've read it, please let me know below - I think I need to talk to someone after reading 'A little life'.My one major takeaway from this book is a fuller understanding of the after-effects of systemic childhood abuse.

Throughout the years, Jude struggles to keep his terrible childhood secret and to trust those who love him. Objectively, parts of this are a gruelling read, but such is the author's skill that the pages do seem to turn themselves as we race towards finding out the terrible secrets of Jude's dark trauma.
