About this deal

There’s VRR ( Variable Refresh Rate) in the standard HDMI version, alongside Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium VRR, covering console and PC gamers. Both VRR and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which automatically puts the TV into its lowest latency, are available across all HDMI inputs, as is 4K/120Hz support. Xbox Series X fans will be pleased to see the OLED65G2 continuing LG’s support for Dolby Vision HDR at 4K/120Hz – something that precious few other TVs can manage, even models that support Dolby Vision in every other format. If you’d rather set the OLED65G2 up on a piece of furniture, you can buy a stand for it. The official support is a high quality item this year, too, that looks very similar to the one supplied with the C2 OLEDs. Gone are the spindly, awkwardly wide-set legs that formed last year’s G1 option. Bear in mind, though, that if you want to buy the official stand for the OLED65G2, you’ll likely have to fork out a pretty penny (pricing is currently TBC). Those looking to save some money might want to look for a third-party alternative that utilises the G2’s standard VESA points. Along with HDR10 and HLG (there’s no HDR10+), there’s Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail. IQ uses the TV’s light sensor to adapt colour, contrast and luminance to optimise the image for brightly lit or dark rooms. The Precision Detail part aims to reveal more detail in the brightest and darkest part of the picture, while also emphasising contrast better.

As always we should point out that premium – really premium – LCD TVs can deliver significantly more brightness with full screen images and peak HDR highlights than even the OLED65G2 can. Though as well as being significantly brighter than most OLED TVs, the intense contrast achievable by the OLED65G2’s pixel-for-pixel lighting provides some pretty hefty compensation for any brightness limitation versus LCD TVs. Add to the mix OLED’s natural advantage when it comes to viewing angles, and it’s pretty hard to find anything negative to say about the OLED65G2’s pictures. With wide-ranging HDR compatibility, the LG OLED65G36LA maximises media content, giving you the very best levels of detail. Compatible with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, this LG TV finds detail, even within the darkest areas of the screen, giving you a clearer insight into movies and a gaming advantage with your console. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Just be careful: the G2 only ships with a wall mount, with the optional desktop mount adding hundreds more to the asking price.

HDR10 and HLG content looks fabulous, the increased brightness producing a slightly bolder sense of contrast than I remember with the G1 showing Jurassic World (in Filmmaker mode). The colour tuning hasn’t changed much, if at all, from the G1; its appearance is fantastically lush and punchy (the blues of the water tank look fantastic), but it maintains a naturalism that applies to complexions as well. With Ridley Road (iPlayer), the colours of the 60s’ set production are held up as rich and vibrant – the G2’s HDR performance is gorgeous. LG’s AI Sound Pro processor still delivers more aggression and room-filling power even with Dolby Atmos sources than the G2’s Dolby Atmos mode does. Now, though, the Dolby Atmos mode does at least have a few sound placement strengths of its own, giving you a genuine choice over which sound mode you prefer. Using a huge database of over one million visual date points, AI Picture Pro uses deep-learning algorithms to recognise content, remove noise and optimise the picture. AI Sound Pro leans from more than 17 million audio data points, identifying voices, effects and frequencies. From here, it optimises the sound by genre, giving a more natural sound quality. As expectedly, the LG OLED G2 is a superb gaming TV that is fully ready for your new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. consoles as well as gaming PC. The inclusion of HDMI 2.1 ports for a 4K-120 Hz signal combined with the virtually non-existent response time and a very low input lag makes this a terrific choice for many gamers that want the most responsive gameplay experience possible. The on-screen motion always stays clear and gives you a competitive edge against players with more inferior TVs and monitors. OLED G2: Price UK The latest webOS system also introduces new Family Settings designed to stop kids – or, let’s face it, adults – from ruining their health by watching too much TV. These include a Usage Limiter, a Screen Time monitor, plus Eye Care and Volume Limiter options.A new Multi View feature enables you to watch different sources on screen simultaneously. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such a feature, of course, but the flexibility and viewing options it supports are impressive.

Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white outputThe LG OLED G2 is powered by webOS, LG's smart platform that supports a wide range of the top streaming services, including Freeview Play, NOW, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and more, while making browsing and searching for things to watch a breeze, even with hands-free voice control. The LG Magic Remote is used to handle the smart platform, and you can also use the LG G2's built-in Google Assistant and Alexa to control your smart home.
